Closet Need: Mustard Cardigan

image via j.crew
My husband was trying to get me to understand the difference between "wants" and "needs" and I think I pretty much got it down.

I WANT a pair of black boots.
I NEED a pair of black flats.

I WANT a grey cardigan.
I NEED a mustard cardigan.

I WANT a skinny red belt.
I NEED a skinny black belt.

My husband seems to think I've gotten it wrong. "You don't NEED any of those things. You need food and water, but you don't need clothes." Uh... actually, yes. I would prefer not to walk around nekkid, thanks.

I think I'm pretty good. I only have it narrowed down to 3 things I absolutely NEED right now.

One is a mustard or yellow cardigan. I stupidly passed over the perfect mustard cardigan in the clearance section of Target a few months ago, in favor of a cream one.. and totally regret it. I remember thinking at the time, "I don't know what I'd wear with this mustard color... and plus, I'm Asian with a yellowish skin tone, so wearing any shade of yellow cannot be good."

After I passed it over (with regret), I began to notice when people wore that color, and even more so if they were Asian or had a similar skin tone. It actually complimented the color of their skin, and looked SO GOOD. See examples below:

  3. I know, right? I want a mustard cardigan so much it's a little ridiculous...it's probably the one yellow tone that works really well with Asian skin!

  8. I got my mustard cardigan last fall, but NY&Co. often recycles its styles, so they might have it back in stock?

  9. I hear you! I've a pretty pronounced "need" for a mustard cardigan as well. :D There was one at Old Navy with a little tulle rosette on it that I really liked...but I've sworn off their cardigans. They're all tissue-weight and crappy.

Also, I adoooore the design of your blog! Shame you don't design stuff for Tumblr...[kicks rock]

I had to comment here since a nice, pretty mustard cardigan is in my Must Want and Must Need list. I have to google and see several options online and decide.

BTW, love your style and I can't believe it you do it on such a low budget of 600$ a month.

Please start following me at Elegance Personified. I appreciate it, Ada. =)
