Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

Dress: Thrifted
Belt: Thrifted
Cardigan: Forever 21
Boots: Frye
Necklace: Target

I stopped by the new Lake Union Park this morning on my way to work, and it was gorgeous. I had no idea there was even a park here until I looked at the map this morning trying to find a new photo location. Surprisingly, the sun was out (doesn't happen much during the winter months)... and I had no idea my eyes were this small. You should see some of the outtakes, it looks like I'm sleeping. SAD.

I picked up this dress on one of my very first Goodwill outings last year. After implementing a clothing budget at the beginning of the year, I realized that I couldn't continue my old shopping habits and was forced to either drastically cut down on buying new clothes, or I had to go cheap. I chose to go cheap, which is why the majority of my new clothes these days comes from Target, Forever 21, or Goodwill. I should probably save up and buy stuff that will last forever, but I have tons of those kinds of nice/slightly pricey-er things in my closet that sit unworn because they're just out of style, or because I'm sick of them already and don't want to donate them because I spent a lot on them. Plus, buying cheap makes me happy. I like to get the most bang out of my buck these days. :)

I'm not sure I like the silhouette of this outfit. You can't really tell from the picture, but the dress has kind of a bell shape to it, and then the cardigan has these pockets that make me look super hippy. This is one of those outfits that looked so much better in my head than in person, but I got up really late this morning and I didn't have the time or patience to pick out something new. But whatever, I like the pattern on the dress a lot, and that's what counts, right?

Peace out!

  1. Oh, I'm with you on this one, about budget shopping! Half of my wardrobe comes from f21, like seriously. I love seeing bloggers wearing awesome thrifted finds. I wish I had more time to go thrift hunting (I most certainly will this winter break)! That dress is just gorgeous... it's a great find!

PS: Love that slouchy cardigan! Plus it has pockets... what's not to love? :P

  2. I always feel like I should save up and buy "nice" clothes but...I'd rather not. Haha...my tastes change so much I don't mind cheap clothes - plus as long as they are cared for properly they can last a long time, too!

  3. You make me miss Seattle soooo much!! Oh, Lake Union. I remember going kayaking all the time in the summer there. :D

I really like the colors in this outfit. They're so earthy and not the traditional darker winter colors.

I'm definitely with you on the clothing budget thing. The only pieces I usually splurge on are jeans (thanks to my in between size at most stores, I can usually only find premium denim that fits right). I'm definitely itching to go thrifting again though!

Which Goodwill do you usually go to? I've been to the one in U-District and one in Bellevue. Apparently there's a really great warehouse-sized one somewhere downtown, but it's in a bit of a sketchy neighborhood.

  4. I love the dress! Super cute. Everyone always seems to have such great thrifting finds, but I always get a little overwhelmed when I go to Goodwill - so many things to look at!

And once again, I love your post title! (I've been singing that song at the top of my lungs in the car lately.) :)

  5. Oh yes, I am all about the cheap! I actually am suprised at how well some of my Target stuff wears. I still wear a few Target things that I bought years ago. When you have little kids, too, it doesn't make sense to have stuff you couldn't replace if it got stained/ruined.

Also, can I just say that I ADORE this combination of floral dress and big chunky sweater? Genious!

  6. @katrina- I go to the one in Renton, which is in a kinda ghetto area, but it's pretty clean and organized inside, and it's only like 3 minutes away from my house so I can swing by there if I have an extra half hour to spare. I haven't really gone to any of the other ones because it's just too time consuming to drive all the way there... haha! I remember going to the one downtown/international district a long time ago, and it's HUGE, but it's just too far away for me, and large thrift stores are just too overwhelming!

@andrea- I totally know what you mean! I don't feel as bad when my clothes gets all dirty or stretched out (my son loves to pull collars sometimes) if it's cheap. I avoid dry-clean only at all costs!

  7. Ohh, in Renton? I don't think I've ever been to that one. I definitely want to check out the one in international district if I ever make it back to the Seattle area.

  8. I've been to the Goodwill on the other side of the ID on Dearborn maybe once or twice and it was overwhelming. There's one in Shoreline just on the other side of 145th bordering North Seattle. It's been there maybe two years now? I am so thriftshopping after my 30 for 30. After I clean out my closet, of course.

You crack me up! I always look like I'm sleeping in most of my pictures because I try to do this demure look (no relation) and I end up looking like I'm dreaming away.

Your outfit is kinda boho chic. Rock it, don't knock it!

One last thing (I like to make long comments longer), if you haven't before, definitely go to Happy Hour at the bottom of the AGC building behind you on the left. Awesome prices, awesome portions.

  9. That background behind you is positively gorgeous!

I really like how you paired the gray & the black together. I think it's really pretty. :)

  10. I like this sweater/dress combo, a lot. I never can get the whole 'belt on the outside of the sweater' thing to look right on me. If I wear the belt over a shirt, it has to go beneath a cardigan, or it just looks awkward.

  12. i really really really like this one! you look so...cool! the thrifted dress has such a great tiny floral pattern, the cardigan is a little oversized but BELTED, and the tights and boots finish it off PERFECTLY. you're like a fashion blogger classic right now!

  13. Okay, actually, I love everything about this look. EVERYTHING. It looks comfy and chic and the color palette is amazing.
I'm all about saving money on clothes, and Target is my favorite store. I'm also a huge fan of thrift stores, even though I can't always find things when I go. My favorite spot to find a bargain though? The clearance racks at outlet stores. I've scored some crazy deals on clearance at Banana Republic, J Crew, and Ann Taylor - you know, the stores I can't really afford. $20 J Crew jeans? Yes, please.
