I work really close to the Seattle Center, so I popped by today to take my outfit picture. It's not too busy at the Center in December, so I wasn't too concerned about awkward stares (I just pretended I was a tourist taking a picture of myself.. pretty much everyone else there was a tourist, so why not?) It did, however, get awkward when some guy who was walking by stopped to let my self-timer go off. It's awkward enough to smile at my camera that's sitting on a bench, but extra awkward when there's a guy standing there watching you a feet away. At least he offered to snap a photo for me, and it turned out 1000x better than all 20 of my self-timer ones... despite the Space Needle sticking out of my head.
I was thinking about those fashion-blogger poses, you know, the "hey look what's on my shoe" or the arm behind the head, or the "I'm minding my own business and didn't realize there's a camera there" kind of thing, and it totally works for other bloggers, but I feel foolish and awkward just thinking about them. I think I'll just stick with standing here and smiling. How do people do it? Especially in public places?! Please do tell, I'm dying to know.
I bought this dress/tunic thing months ago with a gift card, and have been having a really hard time incorporating it into my wardrobe. Armani Exchange really isn't my style, so I seriously browsed the website for over 2 hours deciding what I should get, before giving up and just blindly picking two items from the sale section. The other shirt still has the tags on it... and I still don't know what to do with it.
As for the title of this post, I sat here for 5 minutes trying to think of one... and laughed when I thought of that "Like a G6" song. My husband thought they were singing "fly like a cheese stick" HAHAHA. I don't even know what a G6 is, so I prefer his version. It has nothing to do with this post, but it's my blog and I can do whatever I want.
Don't forget to enter my poster giveaway if you haven't already! :)

HAHAH! Oh my gosh, i definitely chuckled to myself when i read the title of your post and the story behind it. that's too cute! i had no idea what a G6 was either when I first heard the song, but according to one of my plane-savvy friends, it's a not-so-impressive type of plane/jet. no idea why anyone would make a song about a subpar plane, but at least they song's catchy? :P
ReplyDeleteI love the layered look with the dress! Also, you make me miss Seattle so much! I lived in Washington for a few months earlier this year and was in Seattle almost every weekend. I absolutely loved the city and hope to return some day!!
I love this outfit! Taking pictures of yourself is always awkard, no doubt about it. For me, I tend to look down or over or generally away from the camera because then my face is one less thing for me to be critical about when I edit my pictures! haha!
ReplyDeleteOh Kimmie! Hahaha, I thought the lyrics to that song were also "fly like a cheesestick... like a bree stick..." haha!!! Does it show that I'm obsessed with cheese... :P
ReplyDeleteAnd girl, I love how you belt your cardigan so beautifully every. single. time!!! I will have to steal that idea. :)
And as for posing in photos... oh god, I get so awkward in front of the camera too! Most days I ask my little cousin to snap a few for me, and it's not that bad. But in public places, I dunno how others do it! I think you look cute like that, standing and smiling, it's your go-to pose... and if it ain't broke, why fix it, right? :P

Posing is so awkward! I never know what to do. My mom takes my photos and she tries to give me direction, but it always comes out super goofy. I think my favorite shots are the ones where my attention has wandered and I just look natural. But if you're taking your own photos, that can't really happen, I've found...you actually need to be paying attention! I really do admire girls who can unself-consciously pose...but then, I also like candid straight up outfit shots like this one. Its kinda refreshing.
ReplyDeleteLove the outfit! And I take the most awkward photos ever. Hands down. One of the other girls I blog with (Jenni) takes the best photos- totally natural, great details, totally unselfconscious. Luckily she's sweet, otherwise I would have to hate her.

This outfit is FAB...I adore the way it's monochromatic, but you mixed patterns in and made it super cute/chic. Great work! And I don't think you look awkward...I think you're absolutely beautiful!
