A few people have commented saying that they think my husband is mean... hopefully jokingly, but I realize that I may post a lot of the negative (but funny) comments he says to me. If you heard the comments I usually say to him, you'd understand where he's coming from. We have a loving relationship, and I love him more than anything, but we're not lovey dovey or mushy with each other. He's my best friend, and we're pretty sarcastic and poke fun of each other quite a bit. One of the main reasons why I started liking him was his sense of humor, and I know that I can be myself around him. Even though he makes fun of me sometimes, I'm pretty sure he's my blog's #1 fan (though he won't admit it). He gets excited when I get a new follower ("oooh two more followers today!") and keeps track of how many comments I get on each post ("so many comments on your JVDB post!"). It's kind of hilarious and endearing at the same time.
Anyway, enough about that. Let's talk jewelery. Before I started this blog, I had about two necklaces and zero bracelets or fancy rings (wedding/engagement bands don't count.. neither does my jade bracelet that doesn't come off so I'm forced to wear it whether I want to or not). After seeing bloggers with beautiful statement jewelery, I decided I wanted to start accessorizing more, but didn't know where to start. I entered Sydney of Basic Cravings' giveaway for a Stella & Dot ring on a whim (I thought it was pretty but totally not my style. Gold? no thanks) and won, which was pretty exciting! Since it was around the holiday time, it took Sydney a little longer to send it out (which is totally acceptable and I didn't mind at all), but she felt bad so she included this necklace along with my ring. Isn't that seriously the sweetest thing ever? It's my first long necklace, and I'm kind of in love with the length and simplicity of it. And the ring? I was silly for thinking I'd never wear it. I probably wear it about 4 days out of the week (you can probably see it in half my outfit pictures.. I still have yet to do a detail shot), and for those other three days , I have to force myself to NOT wear it. It's so pretty, and I love it. If you're interested in Stella & Dot jewelery, Sydney just became a Stella & Dot rep, so buy from her! She's the sweetest.

Kimmie, I can relate to everything in this post :) You and your husband's relationship sounds like my bf's and I's... except he's the one usually with the zingers :( haha. Second, before blogging I had maybe 2 pieces jewelry. Then all of a sudden I realized how accessories totally transform an outfit and went on a jewelry shopping spree. I love how blogs and bloggers inspire one another to push us out of our comfort zone :)
ReplyDeleteLove your outfit today and how you're not afraid to wear bright colors in the dead of winter. PS - Thank you for introducing me to Stella & Dot, I will be checking out her site!
I love those boots!!
ReplyDeleteSO cute that your husband checks out your followers and your posts...not sure my hubby had ever looked at my blog...
I just want to say thanks again...I have gotten many compliments on the new look of my blog and I owe it all to you!
Brownie points to your husband for keeping up on your blog so well! That's really sweet! My husband and I aren't always mushy sweet either but I know I can always be silly around him and he'll be just fine with it!
ReplyDeleteLove the new jewelry! It can be hard to figure out where to start with jewelry. I'm still working on figuring out exactly what other pieces would work well with what I have. I love the blogging community for helping introduce me to some pieces that will work perfectly for me.

Ackk! I'm so jealous you won the Stella and Dot giveaway! I too am newish to the jewelry scene and there's something about Stella and Dot and that is un-intimidating. I really like that necklace, long necklaces always add something great to an outfit.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I super jealous of those boots! I'm starting to feel antsy and want some tall lace up boots, they seem to just add an awesome edge to every outfit!
Congrats on winning the giveaway! My boyfriend and I are like that too, if a total stranger heard us talking sometimes they'd probably think we hated each other, lol, but it's just how we are. Also, I really like your cardi, that color looks so good on you!
ReplyDeleteShopping and Spreadsheets
i think it's cute when couples pick on each other. my husband and i, at some point during the day, will poke at each other. i think it shows a depth to the relationship (that not all have) when you are comfortable enough to joke. i think it's great!
ReplyDeletealso, your hair looks amazing!
Oh my gosh, so relate to your post. My hubby is my biggest supporter. He gets excited when I get a new follower, even though I don't have many he always says, I will follow u anywhere. We harass each other all the time, and sometimes people think we are kind of mean. All in good fun! 19 happy years together and still going strong.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the giveaway! Sweet!!

That's what happened with me too! I had some jewelry, but I never wore it. It was there for me to look at. haha.
ReplyDeleteYay, it's awesome you won the ring. It's so cute and will got with so many outfits.
I like your boots. You have so many awesome and practical shoes.
Oh yeah,
ReplyDeleteI was going to comment on the jade bracelet. I thought it was just a Vietnamese thing.. are you Vietnamese? Do you know what it symbollizes? I just know my mom had one and my grandma gave me one, but it was cracked so I never wore it.
Just stumbled across you blog. So cute. I love your outfits because they look GREAT and totally doable for any budget.
ReplyDeleteI just started a fashion blog and will most def look to yours for inspiration!
that outfit totally seems like something i would wear! needless to say, i love it :) adorbs.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the giveaway win! I can't wait to see how you style up the ring.
ReplyDeleteI don't think your husband is mean. I think it's really great that you guys don't take each other too seriously and you can have such a fun relationship. I like that you are so honest about these relationships on your blog which makes it so much more real, as a reader, to relate to. xo
Great lace up boots! Indigo by Clarks? Awesome! Comfy?
ReplyDeleteJen Hemming and Hawing Again
congrats to you for winning the giveaway!! surprising how giveaways force you to try things you wouldn't normally try huh? i was the same way when i won a leather skirt! :)
ReplyDeletethe jewelry look absolutely lovely on you and i really love your turquoise cardi. and you're so lucky to have a hubby who loves your blog. i think i'm lucky if my bf even "reads" it (and by read i mean scan through the pictures) once a week! lol

Your relationship sounds just like mine & my husband's. Totally not mushy-lovey, but definitely best friends. And I think he basically stalks my blog all day...I really like that about him. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove the jewelry on you, and that turquoise is absolutely your color! You look great!
Ha! I feel like I have to reign myself in sometimes when I'm blogging about my husband...I'll be in the middle of a story, and I'll realize that I'm making him sound like the biggest deadbeat ever, even though that couldn't be further from the truth. We have a similarly sarcastic/joking relationship, and if you didn't know us in real life (and only read my blog), it could come off as even more dysfunctional that it actually is :)
ReplyDeleteYou look adorable and I love the shade of blue on that cardigan.
ReplyDeleteWe need close-ups! Isn't it great to win new things :)
ReplyDeleteLove your posts... so cute! :)

my husband and i are the same way! i had to do a disclaimer on his blog so people wouldn't think he was being mean to me. :) this outfit looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteKimmie your photos are always so bright and cheery. They make me happy :)
ReplyDeleteYou are totally inspiring me to try to get into statement jewelry more, too! And your boots are ridiculously cute, btw...
Sweet boots!! Aww it's so cute how your husband is your #1 =]
ReplyDeletehaha that is sweet. humor in a relationship is what gives it that extra spark and fun :) it's beautiful to see how you two mutually understand and respect one another in that way! also love your transition.. "enough of that.. let's talk jewelry.." ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the length of the necklace and the blue of your cardi. I think I have the same Old Navy skirt - ha!
ReplyDeleteBlogs can be tricky because they're personal, but they don't encompass your whole life. It's always surprising how people react to certain things, but that's also half the fun!
What a great necklace you won! I definitely need to accessorize more as well.
ReplyDeleteyay!! another fashion blogger!!? you are adorable!! i am new to the whole fashion blog thing, i usually blog about photography, fashion, recipes but just started doing some fashion posts hehe! thanks for following my blog!!! :D
ReplyDeleteYour husband sounds a lot like mine - he reads my blog every day and makes funny comments about my outfits. In fact, one of my fave things is when he says something worth posting with the outfit.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't the jade bracelet come off?
