Ahead of the Game
Apparently, flare and wide-leg jeans are making a comeback this spring, and for once, I'm excited. I still haven't fully embraced the skinny jean trend, so my closet is still full of flares... I guess this makes me ahead of the game? Kind of like those people who don't take down their Christmas lights, and when November and December roll around, they're the first to have their lights all strung and lit.
Well, here I am, embracing the "NEW" wide-leg trend. WOO HOO, I'm such a trendsetter. Riiiight. These jeans are a few years old, and I've never gotten much wear out of them because I hemmed them to the wrong length. They're a little too long for flats, but then too short for heels, and I don't have much in-between. But I just had to make them work today with my brand spanking new flats.
Yes, I bought new flats yesterday, RIGHT after posting about not shopping until March. You see, I was on a hunt for those super-cute grey wedges from Target that both Monkeyface and Andrea have, when Andrea posted that she saw them on clearance for less than $8. I went to TWO Targets, and one of had only a size 11 left, the other had a size 6 and a 7.5. So mad my size 8 feet couldn't squeeze into those. BUT, I did happen upon these cute quilted flats. Aren't they just darling? Plus, they have cushiony insoles, and are surprisingly comfortable for my picky feet. I bought them without waiting them to go on sale or clearance, which is rare for me. And I wore them today, which is even more rare, since I usually wear my shoes around the house for a couple days before I decide if they're comfortable enough to keep.
Believe it or not, these are my first pair of black flats since my last black pair died over 5 years ago. My husband didn't believe me, he was like, "don't you already have like 5 pairs of black flats?" No, I do not. I own a total of two pairs of flats (brown pair and metallic pair), and now this pair. I do, however, have 5 pairs of black boots, if that was what you were talking about.
PS. I had a Target gift card burning a hole in my pocket, which is why my budget has not been affected. YAY for gift cards! :)

haha you are hilarious. I loved every minute of this post - if that's what you're talking about.
ReplyDeleteI definitely do the same thing where I say I won't spend and then I do, I'm really hoping I can last without any purchases during this 30for30. I also fell in love with those exact wedges, but knew there was no point in searching for them because we don't have target. sad life.
Oh! I also adore those jeans!
ReplyDeletethanks 4 visiting my blog. I heart your casual chic style and eeeek, I love those Target shoes. And YAY for Target gift cards, I wish I had an unlimited supply of those.
ReplyDeleteI am also a fan of flare jeans. I do wear skinnies but I can't stay away from flare jeans very long. Those flats are super adorable. I am glad you found them.
ReplyDeleteOoh! I love your quilted flats. I need a black pair myself, and my husband is convinced that there is one that exists somewhere in the depths of my shoe closet. I may just have to go to Target and try those on!
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit Kimmie, and ESP the new flats! What fantastic detailing! I don't feel so guilty with my wedges now that I see what you ended up with instead :)
ReplyDeleteThose really are great flats! And I love your reasoning on being ahead of the game re flared jeans... I have a pair from college I could break out again. I guess it's because I'm ahead of the game too! ;)
ReplyDelete1) love those flats! it makes me so sad because i can usually count on target to have lots of delishy shoes, but apparently the one in buffalo has decided to only be ugly forever. boo you, target of buffalo!
ReplyDelete2) i rocked my flares the other day when i didn't post and i felt like such a rebel. you look fantastic in yours! sevensssss. so jeal.
I am definitely looking forward to the return of flares since that's mostly what I own, but I'm going to miss my skinny jeans, primarily because I feel like you can get away with having skinny jeans that are a little too long. They're just tucked into boots or scrunched up with flats anyway. Flares cause my 5'2 self a little more trouble in the length department... :)
ReplyDeleteI saw these today while I was at Target too! I wanted them but I am waiting for them to go on sale... your oxfords, I couldn't find them at Target. Actually, that's the only reason why I went to Target today :D You're such a trend setter!

Haha I own roughly 6 pairs of flats and only one pair of black boots. (That have yet to arrive in the mail. I hope they are as cute as they looked online so I can include them in the 30for30, which I am SO NERVOUS about btw ahhhh!)
ReplyDeleteSO glad you're able to find more comfy flats for your "picky" feet! They're so cute with this outfit. Once I got used to wearing skinny jeans, I thought they look so cool with flats. But now seeing you with flares, I don't know anymore!
ReplyDeletedefinitely yay for gift cards! especially when you find something great! also, love your white blazer!
ReplyDeletethese flats are great and how great that you had gift cards! i really love these wide-leg jeans on you and you are indeed ahead of the game!

Have you gone to the Issy Target? That one is right next to Mj's school... I will look there for you if you haven't already!
ReplyDeleteAh I am in love with your jeans! I'm so glad that I kept some of my old flares when the skinnies trend started since now the flares are coming back in! And those target flats are adorable, very Chanel-esque!
ReplyDeleteCute shoes, plus, they look so comfy!
ReplyDeleteIt's nearly impossible to go into Target and NOT find something...yah for giftcards, I agree!! Love the flats...also liking that striped Tee :) Happy Friday
ReplyDeleteI love those flats! I've been on the hunt for a new pair of black ones so I'm definitely heading over to Target soon. And I'm also secretly excited to give my skinny jeans a break.

oh those flats are so adorable! I love the detailing on them.
ReplyDeleteAnd my parents are those christmas tree people. well not in the past few years, but we definitely had a christmas tree up for like 3 years solid. I graduated college before that sucker came down!
I am SO with you on not embracing the skinny jeans. I love my black flats from Target - not as cute as yours, but uber comfortable!

Love it! I'm totally with you on the flares/widelegs. My jeans drawer is full of them (I only bought one pair of skinny jeans and one straight leg over the past few years).
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I am loooooving that blazer! So cute and versatile.
I want those wedges, too! But will only buy them if they are on sale. I'll look for them tomorrow. If they don't have them, maybe I should look for your shoes. They are super cute!

i love flares...bell bottoms...whatever you wanna call it! i was so happy to find one in the sea of skinnies a while back. i should have bought several because i usually end up wearing them a couple times a week! i love the addition of a white blazer, too....keeps is fresh.

But you're so skinny so skinny jeans would TOTALLY work for you! Anyway, I feel if you wear wide leg/flares, you have to wear uber high heels to balance that wideness... My legs are too short to do flare + flats and still look anywhere fashionable.
ReplyDeleteThose are nice flats... they remind me of the classic Chanel bags.
LMAO @ your affinity for black shoes.
