Overspending

Blouse: Hand-me-down (orig. Forever 21)
Cardigan: Hand-me-down
Jeans: Hand-me-down (orig. Rock and Republic)
Oxfords: Target

Is it funny that the only thing I bought in this outfit is my shoes? And is it funny that I've already bought WAAAY too much stuff this year, and we're only less than a month in? I was a little too excited with my budget getting refreshed. Let's see all that I bought so far:

Bunny necklace (Etsy)
Sterling Silver ring (Seattle Center gift shop)
Oxfords (Target)
Flannel button-up (Target)
Camel colored shorts (The Limited)
Long sleeve black tee (Old Navy)
Long sleeve grey tee (Old Navy)
floral skirt (Old Navy)
magenta skirt (Old Navy)
skinny cargos (Old Navy)
purple sweater (Old Navy)
teal tights (Old Navy)
black woven shirt (Old Navy)
mustard cardigan (Nordstrom Rack)
lavender cardigan (Nordstrom Rack)
lace tee (Nordstrom Rack)
denim shorts (H&M)
striped dress (H&M)
navy miniskirt (Goodwill)
pink layering tee (Goodwill)
work-out shorts (Goodwill)
Short sleeve sweater (Goodwill)
White button-up (Goodwill)

Total cost of all clothes above: $200
Minus misc. income over the month so far: $80
Total spent: $120

Yeah, you should NOT be taking budgeting advice from me. Remember how I'm supposed to only spend about $50 per month? I'm not really on track for that anymore.

I kind of went crazy at Old Navy, with the 40-50% off clearance and coupons on top of that. The most expensive thing I've bought so far was the $25 denim shorts at H&M but I really really like them and can't bear to return them.

As I went through my purchases and started listing out all the clothing items I bought and then linking to them, I thought it would be a good idea to do a month-end budget update at the end of every month. Plus, it will make me remember to wear everything, since I can link to them (yay for checking things off my list!). What do you guys think of this new feature? You probably don't care... but I posted it over on the left-hand sidebar over there in case there's a slight chance you're interested. It's mostly for my own sake to remember what I buy and to remember to wear it. Sometimes I forget what I have in my closet. (SO BAD, I KNOW.)

I'm avoiding my favorite shopping spots until the end of February, so hopefully this is it for January. And I'm saving a couple of those items for the 30x30, so that's why I'm not wearing them yet (don't want to waste outfits!)

AND OMG! I'm at 93 followers. I was planning to have a giveaway once I reached 100.. but I don't know what to give away yet. Hmm.... what do you guys like? :) Gift cards? jewelery? clothes? Make-up? What's something that everyone would enjoy?

  1. Love your green and navy together. It's one of my favorite combinations.

I'm the worst at saying I'm not going to spend, then do. I've done a significant amount of damage in January too.

  2. I love this outfit!

And ooof, don't even talk to me about spending. I need to take myself off of UO's mailing list. (Bought much needed black boots from them on Monday... but the LAST thing I should be dropping $50 on is a pair of fabulous boots.) Thank God for the 30for30 no shopping rule!

  6. I love this outfit!

And for only spending $120, you got a lot of stuff! I went to the Gap yesterday to find those flats and that belt and managed to only leave with things that were on my wishlist...I was SO proud of myself!

  7. I love that your outfit is all hand-me-downs. They look so fresh on you!

I think you bought a pretty good haul for $120. I couldn't resist the Old Navy sale either...

  8. I love this cardi with this top!! Great colors.

Your shopping already this year is cracking me up. I use to shop soooooo much and now the only way I can stick to budget is just by staying away from the stores altogether! :(

  9. I've spent so much as well! Much more than my budget for the month. It doesn't help that end of the season sales are EVERYWHERE!

  10. You got a ton of stuff for that money! I also recently totally blew my budget and bought a bunch of things I didn't really need, but they were great items for awesome prices. Some months it's just harder to resist than others! I do enjoy your new feature. I am always a fan of honest money spending fashion :)

  13. The polka dots paired with the green cardi is such a cute combination.

I like this new budget feature. I'm hoping your budget consciousness will rub off on me :) And yay on 94 followers! I personally like gift cards, but it's probably limited to only certain people (like within the US). It's really up to you though. I'm sure whatever you decide on, we'll appreciate!

  15. I love the green and navy together, and the little polka dots help break up the navy and make it delicate - beautiful.

I must same I am really excited about the budget bar and I noticed it right away when I signed onto your site. It'll help keep you accountable, but don't feel bad if you go over - we won't judge! :)

  16. Hi - it's me, Amber Lena (from Andrea/peanut butter hand print). It's so funny that you commented on her post because I signed up to follow you JUST yesterday! Weird huh??? And! (obviously, since I met up with Andrea) I'm in Seattle too! it's totally a small (blogging) world because I totally love Tiffany's blog too!

  17. I love this outfit! And I know it may seem like you've spent a lot of money so far, but it sure sounds like you've gotten a lot of (great) stuff too. But then again, don't take financial advice from me in this area. I was trying not to shop in the month of January (which meant I only spent about $150). Shopping is the one area of my budget I always blow. But I think I may start adding a tally to my blog too, to hold me accountable.

  18. You look adorable in today! This outfit is absolutely going in my 'looks to copy' file :)

I am somewhat relieved to hear that the budget process is still a work in progress...I set one for this year, and I'm already way over for the month of January. But, I'm doing the remix in February, and that means no shopping, so technically, I'm ahead of plan? Maybe?

  19. I might have to buy a shirt just like that and copy this outfit. It's pretty darn great.

I love the idea of end-of-the-month budget posts! I like the sidebar thing too. :) You might even inspire me to set an actual budget... right now I sort of just buy things whenever and try not to spend too much.

  20. I think the feature is a good idea because it stares at you and says, "Kimmie, you're cut off for a while." Tough love. At least you got a bunch of stuff! And, really, you had to take your cousins shopping when they were in town. That's the loving thing to do!

That's an interesting building in the background. I should skip work and drive around to look for it. No clues!

  21. I love the splash of green in this outfit! The shoes are also SO cute. I definitely cannot wait to be close to Target again!!

I'm really liking the fact that you're posting everything you purchased with your $50 budget in the month. I think it's amazing how you've been able to stretch out your budget and add so many pieces to your wardrobe.

  22. I like your new feature idea. I need to do something evaluating of my spending habits myself. Maybe you're new feature will give me some motivation to keep track myself. And trust me you're done better than me so far this year! I'm not sure I want to see what I've spent so far!
