This outfit was inspired (aka I was too lazy to come up with my own outfit and just copied someone else) by The Queen of Oz, who posted an adorable outfit including the same Target lace skirt, plus a chambray button-up and maroon cardigan. Since I don't own a chambray button-up, I had to go with this thrifted Gap button-down... that I just washed and hadn't had a chance to iron yet.
Since my ironing board is one of the few things in my room that my son can't reach, I pile A LOT of crap on there, you know, like in-the-middle-of-sewing-and-
I was looking for this particular park today and couldn't find it, so I settled for this stairwell-between-two-streets thingy. I was in the middle of taking my pictures, when a truck load of construction workers looking for the street below leaned over the edge of the railing above me and said hi. SO AWKWARD.
*Since I only had a small number of mediocre pictures to choose from, I asked my husband to help me pick one out. He didn't like half the pictures because he said it looked like my shirt needed ironing. Genius FAIL.

So cute, Kimmie! Love the stripes & lace combo. I've seen so many bloggers rocking that skirt that I kick myself almost daily for not grabbing one.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have been known to "iron" a few pieces of mine with my blowdryer in a pinch. :p I prefer to think of it as "resourceful". Haha.
The skirt that everyone but me has...totally jealous.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the foe-chambray top from your sister?
I'm always way too lazy to bust out the ironing board, but I never thought of using a hair straightener before. Anyway, that lace skirt is so cute! I wish I had picked one up too, especially when they went on super-clearance.

I used to throw things in the dryer for a little bit to let them wrinkle out. Doesn't work for some items. Other times I figure it'll wrinkle out with gravity or it would get wrinklesd anyway on the bus ride over, so why bother? I guess that's why I look like a slob half the time. I also don't remember to use my lint roller. What's wrong with cat hair?
ReplyDeleteLove the skirt! Maybe the contruction workers do as well.

haha, I use my straightener to iron the hems of my skirts sometimes! And I really like this outfit - the different textures coming in from the lace, shiny belt, and striped cardigan are really nice. I also love that cardi - it's on my "maybe I'll buy this stuff on my last day with my employee discount at F21" list.
ReplyDeleteI have a few ways to "iron" things. My all time favorite is to toss it into the dryer on low setting with a damp washcloth. That was it's warm and (at least mostly) wrinkle free. I got a travel steamer for Christmas and it's being amazing at getting wrinkles out of clothes quickly!
ReplyDeleteStill love seeing you rock that skirt... I'll take all the inspiration for it I can get!
Rochelle
yes! i asked for it for christmas from the husband!! you should also try an Old Navy (if you have one near! they have some cute colored ones - as well as black and blue ones!).
ReplyDeletelove the combo of that delicate lace skirt with the black tights and rough boots! such a great contrast, kimmie! (:
I do that hair-straightening iron trick all the time, it works wonders usually!
ReplyDeleteI like the pairing of a feminine skirt with more masculine boots. You look so comfy and cute!
ReplyDeleteThat *is* genius!
ReplyDeleteI hear ya on accumulating clutter on high spaces. The top of our fridge is outta control with papers and "chokey" pieces from toys.
i never thought about using a flatiron as an iron, but it does sound genius! i love that lace skirt and it looks perfect with the button-down shirt, cardi, and belt. and i never noticed before, but i like your bracelet too! is it jade?

ReplyDeleteaw, your husband is a party pooper =P
ReplyDeleteJust Better Together
i love all of the places you've been taking photos!
ReplyDeleteLOL @ your husband's comment! haha that's so mean. every time you mention your husband, all i can think of is the "fly like a cheese stick" post. too funny!!
You've gotta love the helps of the men, eh? Seems like both the construction workers and your husband had it in for this post. :)
ReplyDeleteI love how cute and comfy this outfit is. It's adorable, but still has an edge. And I love that skirt. I own it in 4 colors!
i LOVE this outfit! i actually prefer the combination you came up with better than the one you were inspired by. really cute! (i am the worst at caring about ironing my clothes... i never do it!)
ReplyDeleteso that's what the real maddens look like, i have the target knock offs. nice, i know;) hahahaa! so cute!
ReplyDeleteYOURS, MINE AND OURS
