Define your style

[30 for 30: Outfit 9]
Dress: Banana Republic Factory Store
Cardigan: Gap Outlet
Oxfords: Target
Belt: Thrifted

I got a question on my Formspring yesterday asking me to define my style. I've never really thought about my style much, I kind of just wear whatever I want. Since I don't get that many Formspring questions (what? you guys don't care about my awesome life?! j/k), I wanted to write a good answer (nope, didn't happen. it's a pretty boring answer) so I googled "how to define my style" and "what is my style?"

HAHA. How lame is that? But even more lame is, I ended up clicking on one of those free quizzes geared towards 14 year olds, and decided to take it just for fun. Guess what it told me my answer was?

"Your style is FRUMPY"

WHAT?! Okay, I'm not linking to that quiz because it lies.

Anyway, it's sunny today, and these harsh shadows are making my calves look gigantic. -10 points for you, Mr. sun. But +10 points for being nice and warm, so we're all even.

And the dock that I took this photo on is kind of amazing. Look at the view of the Olympic Sculpture Park!

And just because I'm curious to how you guys would respond to that question. How would YOU define your style?

  1. bahaha you are so NOT frumpy. You are stinkin' adorable. And your calves look completely proportional so don't stress it. I am NO expert, but my first instinct was to say you have Classic style with a little School Girl mixed in every now and then. I know nothing, though, except that you definitely HAVE style. Too cute! xo

  2. LOL definitely not frumpy at all! Loving your style - I have no idea what my style would be either. You know what you like and what looks good on you :)

  3. id say your style is anything but frumpy!! ahhh i want those oxfords!! you're making me want to go to target REAL bad! and i know if i go, i'd come out of the store with more than just shoes (if i can even find them)!!

  4. FRUMPY?! Really?! I don't think so. I love the way you can layer almost anything and make it work. (Plus, I want to steal your oxfords. TAKE ME TO TARGET, PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE!)

I honestly have no idea how I would've answered that question either. I don't really label my style. It's sort of nerdy, mixed with awkward, with a bit of girliness sprinkled on top? Wait... that sounds like my personality too. HAHA I don't know. I'll just go with frumpy?

  5. Evolving.

And you are so not frumpy.

  6. hahhah awww that is a funny story. I imagine your style was defined as "frumpy" due to the fact that it was a quiz for 14 year olds? Because those kids don't know what cool is yet.

  7. That's an easy answer... your style is KIMMIE!

And it is awesome and not in the least frumpy.

  8. ¿FRUMPY?! That's so ridiculous it requires emphatic Spanish punctuation. You're anything but frumpy.
I've decided that my style is "Classic with a twist". I haven't decided what the twist is yet, though.

  9. First of all, I think it's hilarious that you googled how to define your style. You crack me up. Second, while I think your style is awesome, I imagine, by fourteen-year-old standards, we may all be the queens of frump, so I most definitely wouldn't take it personally.

I bet if you told the quiz you wore Bieber t-shirts everyday, it might bump you up a couple of points :)

  12. I am still trying to figure out my personal style. I think that you look super cute, I love your outfits.

  13. YOU ARE SO FAR FROM FRUMPY. So far. I think my style is comfortable chic mom-on-the-go. At least I like to think of it as that. But I actually loathe the word "chic," so that's a toughie.

  14. 1. frumpy? that's hilarious
    2. your calves are tiny. itsy bitsy even in this picture :)

i wish it were warm and sunny here!
I would define my style as preppy, but in a really classic way. I love loafers and navy blue and any thing that looks like it was inspired by the 1950s. I think I should have attended an all-girls catholic school in the 50s. Oh well- here I am instead! Based on some of your outfits I'd call your style classic as well.

  15. Ooooh, good question! So hard to define! My friends describe my style as stylish without being trendy. I don't think that's quite how I would define myself but it's a start! :)

  17. I love your style...if it's Frumpy...You make frumpy look great :D I found your site through tiffany's (I am stylish). I'm really enjoying this 30 for 30 challenge! Great way to Mix and Match :D

  18. Um. Frumpy? What kind of quiz were you taking? Did they direct you to Hot Topic or Rave after you were done? I think you are beautifully classic.

I've got a little better at figuring out what I like with 30 for 30 but it's just a bunch of words not really a "style" - preppy, 70's, soft.

  19. FRUMPY?! Really? Clearly that quiz has never visited this blog.

I have no idea what my personal style is, really, if it makes you feel any better. It's such a difficult thing to define!

  20. You are definitely not frumpy! I was just thinking the other day about how to define my style and I couldn't think of anything specific because I feel like I tend to wear anything. But I was watching Glee once, and I have a lot of the same clothes as Rachel, and on one episode, I remember that one of the characters told her she dressed like a grandpa. Hm...haha

  21. You look super cute! Brown shoes look great with grey tights! And the blue cardigan adds color. :)

  22. Pretty shade of blue! And, your hair looks great! Ever cliché, I would say my style is eclectic. I love vintage, but can fall for trends. I can dress classic one day and funky another.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  23. haha...that's hilarious! I would say your style is comfortable casual. When people ask me I say my style is classic with a twist...but I don't really know what that means.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I like your style, there's no need to really define it. I think mine is constantly evolving but it's becoming simpler but still chic! =)

  25. LMAO! I totally do that whenever I don't know how to give a good answer to something! "Frumpy"... what does that even mean?!

Your stuyle I think would be casual feminine chic. Why?
    - Casual cuz everything you wear looks very comfortable [I associate the two together].
    - Feminine cuz your long wavy hair makes everything look very elegant & classy.
    - Chic cuz your outfits always come out super cute & NON-frumpy.

    :)

  26. You, my dear, are most definitely NOT frumpy. That quiz does lie!

I think I'd define mine as classic with a twist. Only because that's what someone else told me. Otherwise, I have no idea!

  27. You are definitely NOT frumpy. I would describe your style as easy, casual, layered and bohemian, with a love for neutral colors. You should wear more bright colors though I think. You have the age, face and body for it so why not!! Love your Oxfords and perfect idea including them in your 30 for 30 cause tou can do so much with them. I need to buy me a pair or two. I want a pair of light gray ones and the second pair either beige/tan or cognac (kind of like yours). I can't believe yours are from Target, what a great buy!
