denim shirt: Walmart
skirt: J. Crew
Boots: Frye Melissa Button
Ring: Linkel Designs
My hunt for the perfect denim or chambray shirt has been pretty unsuccessful so far. I put back not one, but TWO perfectly good (and totally cute and MY SIZE) chambray shirts at H&M and the BR factory store because I thought they were "too expensive" at the time (they were $15 and $20, respectively). Now, I'd do anything to go back and snatch them up. I bought and returned a Target chambray shirt, and tried on multitudes of others but haven't found one that I love just yet.
When Mandi posted the other day about a denim shirt from Walmart for only $1, I immediately made plans to stop by the next day to see if they had any left. Luckily, there were still a few left in the clearance racks, and for $1, I couldn't NOT buy it. It's totally cute and fits well, but the problem is the distressing. Normally, I don't mind a bit of distressing, but this shirt is just trying too hard. The "distressing" looks so fake and so unnatural, like little rectangular fraying patches all over the back. WEIRD. But hey, it was only a dollar, I can't complain.

This skirt is gorgeous! And that's perfect to get a cute $1 shirt until you find the perfect one!

I want a shirt like that! I think it looks cute. And cute pictures! Do you use a tripod? love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm going through the same search for a chambray shirt! It's a lot harder here, becuase I don't have a target, H&M or anything nearby :(
ReplyDeleteBut the shirt IS really cute, and the skirt goes so well.

P.S. Your blog has changed a bunch! I like it!
ReplyDeleteThat skirt is super cute!
ReplyDelete$1 is cheap! But what do you expect? At least you won't be too bummed if anything were to happen to your new walmart shirt. Maybe those chambray shirts will come up again soon. Next time, you won't think twice.

Luv luv luv the ring. I have the cutest wrap chambray shirt. I bought it a long time ago. I totally want to learn how to sew so that I can make clothes I really like that I design for myself and others.
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous of all the great deals you find. $1?!?! Seriously!?!? That has got to be the deal of the century! I don't notice the distressing and think it's super cute paired with your toffee skirt. I now think I need that skirt back in my life :)
ReplyDeleteIt's funny you mention Walmart vs Target because the one I go to are literally next door to each other. But like you said, the shoppers are practically night and day! Still love Walmart though for their deals.
I think you look wonderful. The perfect chambray is a must!
ReplyDeleteAnd people of walmart is hilarious! But it is crazy how different it is from Target, I even read that Target is overall cheaper on items they both carry. However the upscale walmarts arent too bad.
amen to everything you said. also, i am officially asking permission to steal your genius clothing-budget widget thingy. love it. and i will link to your brilliance.

That pink flower ring is too cute, Kimmie! Such a great little touch.
ReplyDeleteI, too, have been searching for the perfect chambray shirt without any success. I guess I'll know it when I see it (and I will tweet you immediately so you can run out and get one too and then we will be twins and it will be awesome)!
Very true, Wal-Mart definitely has more interesting shoppers. Target is across town for me and Wal-Mart is five minutes away so I often take late night trips to Wal-Mart. That's when all the "fun" happens!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. I've thrifted and then re-donated three chambray shirts in the last two years. And then I keep thingking it would be easier to get a new one...but there's the distressing! Who comes up with this stuff? Oh, hey, look at my really cool worn in shirt. I was just leaning against some sharp...uh, walls. Yeah. And I like to rub my pockets. Like, a lot. *ahem*
ReplyDeleteSeriously.
Also, your 15 embarrassing things had me cracking up. I think we're secretly weirdo twins.
wow, a chambray shirt for $1?!! that's a freaking good deal!! and it looks amazing with this khaki skirt. the ring is also super cute!
ReplyDeletecute & little
i need a chambray shirt too! glad your hunt is going more successfully than mine is :)
ReplyDeleteYay! You're alive! And you look darling.

I too am looking for a chambray shirt, but it's a little difficult because I don't think I completely understand what one is. is it denim or soft, blue denimish material... oh, I'll never wrap my head around it!
ReplyDeleteIn other news, yes, I'm still in Canada. Although I would have loved to have been at that Nordstrom rack meeting you - that would have been so fun! That story definitely made my Saturday!
What a fantastic skirt!

So, I was totally going to vote for the pink skirt when you were trying to decide, but I think you actually made the right choice :) So cute!
ReplyDeleteThis Life, Redefined…stop by and say hi!
love the ruffle on the top part of the skirt! and cute ring!! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the skirt and the boots...I die for those! Thanks for stopping by my blog too :)
ReplyDelete$1?! That's amazing! It makes me want to go to Walmart so badly, but I don't shop there - argh! And I love that paper bag waist skirt. I've been on the hunt for one for a while.
ReplyDeleteNew skirt! Love it! I finally got a chambray shirt from Target a while back and I love it. And I definitely agree Walmart's pretty ghetto, but who can say no to a $1 shirt?

Duuuude... I thought I commented on this yesterday?? Well, here I am again =) I wanted this skirt from J.Crew but I was too late; by the time I saw it on sale, they only had black left. Le boohoo. Denim shirt for a dolla? Daaayyum. Very nice! I love your outfit. And I'm a huge fan of Frye boots, aren't they just gorgeous? Can't beat em.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness- I feel you on the WalMart thing. It's not an awesome place to go around here... very strange. But I do go for things like canned/boxed food, granola, bread, yogurt, and some deli things. I also buy shampoo and some makeup, there. But it's not a place I like to go often, and it's often not a place I prefer to go alone!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this top for $1, though. You're right- can't complain too much! :) You look amazing.
I feel ya on the Wal-Mart thing! I live a block away from Wal-Mart but I always make the drive over to Target anyway. I can not handle the things I see and hear inside that Wal-Mart. Thinks like women in string bikinis or see thru shirts with no bra. Not okay.
ReplyDeletethe Walmart and Target here are literally right across the street from each other, and no one is ever in Target but the Walmart parking lot is always packed. I take that to mean I'm awesome in a town of not-so-awesome's. ;)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got this skirt - I loved it online but wanted to see it on a real person and it looks real fab :)
I still can't believe the $1 shirts at Walmart! I have been searching for the perfect chambray shirt (in my price range), with no luck thus far...
