You're my sunshine after the rain

Dress worn as top: H&M
Cardigan: Target
Skirt: Old Navy
Boots: DV by Dolce Vita
Necklace: gift from Amber Lena

... you're the cure against my fear and my pain, 'cause I'm losing my mind when you're not around... It's all, it's all, it's all because of you :)

It was pouring rain during the day today, and I crossed my fingers it would clear up by the time I drove home. Thank goodness it did, because sideways rain is not fun, and taking pictures in it would be even worse.

I realize that a lot of people in Seattle don't carry umbrellas, even though it's always raining all the time. Aside from keeping you somewhat dry, I realize that umbrellas are very good tools when you see someone walking towards you that you want to avoid eye contact with. Like, today, I was crossing the street, and this crazy bum started walking towards me waving his arms and shouting incoherent things (I think he was trying to tell me I could cross the street even though the crosswalk light was red, because no cars were coming). I just tipped my umbrella down so I couldn't see him anymore, and that was that. Problem solved.

Makes me wish I could solve all my problems with an umbrella. Don't want to do dishes? Block them out with an umbrella. Don't know how to solve a problem at work? Block it out with an umbrella. Cranky baby waking me up at 3am with a bloody nose and then getting it all over me? Block it out with an umbrella (after I wash out all the blood from my clothes and hair, of course. Gross.)

  1. LOL - yes, life would be much simpler if we could block things out with an umbrella!

I love your look today...like I do all days :)

  3. Hahaha your life sure isn't ever boring. I'm not an umbrella carrying person either, but I do like to wear my rainboots... even when there's only a 40% chance of rain.

I swear, your photography skillz are improving so much. Like the second photo? I love the framing. You look great, Kimmie!

  5. I adore your style - very classy + refined, yet relaxed. Not to mention that I'm seriously a sucker for a cardigan and some stripes!

Despite our drought-woes lately down here in Texas, it's very common to get caught in that 'it-didn't-even-look-like-it-was-going-to-rain-today' rain + knowing this I'm still always caught without one. But if it had all the powers you mentioned, not only would I have one handy in my car, but I'd have the phone app too! Lol.

  6. We're experiencing the same rainy weather over here, and I am so over it... that and the cold temps.

I really love this outfit. The taupe softens the black so the balance of dark and light neutrals is spot on.

  7. I totally agree! I would love to just hide from certain things :) I love your outfit and you're lucky the rain stopped, because your pictures are wonderful! Also, I just have to say that I really love the aesthetic of your blog. It is very clean and beautiful!! You have an eye for design :)

  8. You can stand under my umbrella-ella-ella ey ey ey...
Um.. so, that's gonna be in my head all day.

POOR P! Did that happen recently? Ohmgee.
And, great job using the dress as a top! I LOVE IT! And your skirt is my favorite, ever.

  9. Aw, thanks, Cee! I'm trying to find more interesting photo locations and using a tripod has definitely helped a ton! :)

  10. Yeah, he had a really bad bloody nose the night before last. Since he sleeps next to me (I know, we're bad. he refuses to sleep in his toddler bed now) he got it ALL over me and the bed. Not fun times.

  11. Life would be a lot easier if umbrellas were a cure all! I love the black and khaki color combo you have going on!

  12. Haha, if only an umbrella could be so handy!

  13. I love the stripes and the mix of neutrals. I also really admire your clothing budget – some of bloggers spend that much on a pair of shoes! I enjoy a variety of personal style blogs but I think it's extra cool when someone can pull together great looks on a budget. It's funny: sometimes it seems like "cheating" if everything someone features is new. Being on a budget requires much more creativity!

  14. Aw, thanks, Eleanor. I'm actually really bad with trying to keep to the budget, I've already spent over half of what I have for the year and April isn't even over yet!

It's hard because I follow a bunch of blogs where girls seem to have unlimited funds for designer purses, fancy shoes, and trendy clothes, and there's always going to be the "gotta keep up with everyone else" mentality, as well as the "I can't wear this shirt so many times on my blog" mentality that I need to get rid of. I have definitely shopped more since starting the blog, and despite trying to cut down, it's really difficult!

  16. Oh man I wish an umbrella like that really existed. I don't envy your rain, although I'd almost trade it for all the wind we've been having lately.

  17. You're hilarious. I also use the umbrella trick, especially on people I'm trying to avoid ...although in Halifax it's so windy more umbrellas are destroyed within minutes.

I love that you're layering your dress as a shirt; it's a such a great move.

  18. Your boots are so fab, is the heel high? I think you look so cheery despite the rain. And no, I'm one of those people that do not like to be wet - therefore, I tend to carry my umbrella when there is a chance of rain.

  19. I love umbrellas. I think Seattlites like pretending they're SOOO used to the rain that they don't need them but no matter how long I live here I still haven't been able to train my hair not to go flat without protection.

  20. Hey Jarucha, the heel is about 3.5 inches tall I think? (this pair here: http://www.zappos.com/dv-by-dolce-vita-pax)

I just hate carrying so much stuff. I usually just end up wearing a coat with a hood if there's a chance of rain!

  21. I've gone through a ton of umbrellas, too! But the one I have now has held up for the past couple years. Amazing :)

  22. I love this picture location...it looks so peaceful! I'm glad the rain held off for your photo shoot today :)

I'm assuming poor P had a bad night recently? Hope you can get caught up on your sleep sometime soon!
