Blueberries

Top: Banana Republic
Skirt: Karen Kane (giveaway prize)
Shoes: Target

Last month, I came across a giveaway for $200 for an outfit and a styling session hosted by Karen Kane, and I entered, of course, because I love entering giveaways. I was so surprised when I was emailed a few weeks later letting me know I had won! So exciting!!! I mean, what's better than free clothes?

I met up with Angie, a Karen Kane rep, last week for our shopping day at Macy's, and it was really nice to be able to learn more about the company and brand. We picked out a bunch of outfits to try on and I ended up with a few different things, all of which I absolutely adore.

Seeing that $200 is one third of my annual budget allotted to clothes, it was really difficult for me to stomach spending that much money on only three items. And two of the things were FULL PRICE and NO COUPON (!!!!! it should be a crime to pay full price and have no coupon at Macy's). As I left the store, I was thinking that maybe I could return one of them and use the money towards other clothes (because $90 goes a long ways, and using it on only one item seemed wasteful), but I was unable to pick one item I liked least, and couldn't bear the thought of returning any of them. I like them all too much.

Plus, it's nice to wear something other than Target and Forever 21 once in awhile :)

PS. My dear friend Linley over at Dwelling and Telling is hosting her own giveaway for a $200 Karen Kane styling day! Go enter NOW!

PPS. There are no blueberries in this picture. I had no idea what to name this post, and Sorren suggested 'blueberries' - because everyone likes blueberries. TRUE DAT.

  1. I love that skirt! I totally entered Linley's Karen Kane giveaway too!
I totally know what you mean about feeling guilty buying things for full price - but you deserve a treat every now and then!

  2.  It is a FABULOUS skirt, I'm glad you just went for it.  And there is some blue in it, yes?  The title's not TOO far off ;)

  3.  Definitely entering that giveaway--that skirt is adorable!  And I didn't even notice this post had nothing to do with blueberries until you said so, and seriously who doesn't like them?

  4. Congratulations! I won a tube of Burts Bees chapstick from Lucky Magazine's sweepstakes once and Andrew thought I had lost my mind the way I came screaming in the door waving my wee package.  Ha ha! I don't know what I'd do with $200!

I hear you on the spending that much on 3 items. It would be tough for me, too. That skirt is beautiful on you though and maybe you'll just have to re-frame it so that you think about winning 3 pretty things from Karen Kane instead of the $200. Am I making any sense?

  5. Haha, yes! and I'm wearing a blue shirt, too!! :)

  6. Totally! Makes much more sense that way. :)

Winning stuff is always so much fun though! I just need to see it as "winning clothes" rather than winning money. :)

  8. Wow, that is so exciting! Don't feel bad about the $200 spree, it's okay to splurge on something nice everyone one in a while...specially if it's not even your money. :D My motto is "if I don't spoil myself, then who will?" ;-)

  9. Gorgeous choice!!

I know what you mean about not wanting to pay full price. One plus of the recession is the abundance of sales!

  15. Love that skirt on you! The pattern and fit are just perfect. And I agree that buying full price can be way scary- but you deserve to splurge every once and awhile- especially when it is free money :)

  18. 1) I'm wicked jealous of your win, but congrats! ;)
    2) Completely agree about dropping that kind of mulah on clothes.
    3) I love random blog titles. So much better when they're not obvious.

  19.  Adorable! And I can relate. I am at a point where i am ready to focus on quality over quantity, and fill in the holes in my wardrobe with awesome investment pieces I can wear to death...but I still catch myself fighting the urge to turn around and take it back and go buy four semi-cool things at Value Village instead! It is hard to avoid second guessing yourself when real money is involved.

  22. Such a good motto! Except my husband would probably be like, "oh, so that means I don't need to spoil you then?" ;)

  23. I know! I can't remember the last time I paid full price for something. I love sales!

  24. Haha, I know! Angie pointed out the floral blouse that you got, but they didn't have my size left. It was really cute!

  25. I know. Sometimes I'm just tempted to just name my blog posts the date like I've seen people do. Thinking of good post names is just too hard.

  26. Yes! I hope I'll be able to wear it a lot this summer! :) Easily dressed up or down, those are the best!

  27. YES, it is! and everyone at their company is just so nice. I love that they're a small family-run company and have the ability to reach out to their customers via social media. So awesome!

  28. I know! it's just hard to get out of that mindset of "I'm spending $200 on this stuff" when it's not even my money to spend!

  29. Blueberries are the best! and I am wearing blue... so it makes a little sense. RIGHT? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thanks, Emerald! I think I'm the type of person that loves the thrill of finding a good deal :)

I should just make all my blog titles completely random. That would be so much easier!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ah yes, quality over quantity. It's just too hard to resist a good deal at Target these days. I try to save up for the quality things, but then I end up spending all my money on little cheap things. :(

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks Melissa! It's actually not chambray, it's just a blue shirt that looks like chambray in pictures ;)

And we can pretend that they're blueberry flowers on my skirt, right? :)

  33. That is a beautiful skirt and it will make any outfit just amazing!

  34. I am SO envious you won that giveaway - that skirt is amazing - I love the pattern and the thick black band on the waist. You're whole outfit is fantastic.

And the giveaway itself is just amazing. Seriously!? a consultation with a rep!? A-mazing. You are one lucky duck!

  35. Yeah, I don't think there's anyway I could return something like that skirt, either...it's so pretty! And every once in awhile, a splurge isn't a bad thing, especially when you're spending prize money :)

I've always wanted to do something like a style consultation...was it awkward at all?

  38. That skirt is so springy! And at least you'll know that since it was more expensive, it'll likely last much longer than a cheaper item. I have those shoes too!
