Substitutions

[Summer 30 for 30: Outfit 5]
Button-down: Target
Skirt: Old Navy
Belt: Target
Flats: Target
Necklace: Loft

It's getting a bit annoying to have to keep pulling my tights out IN JUNE. I already wore all 3 pairs of my pants in my first few outfits and I wasn't quite ready to re-wear them just yet. It is the 30 for 30 challenge after all, not the "wear the same jeans for 30 days straight" challenge.

After doing a little bit of shopping last week (in defense, I only went to see if I could find the mustard yellow skirt so I could fill my wildcard item), I decided that I wanted to swap some of my 30 items out. Here's what I'm doing:

I have a lot of dark colored bottoms, so I don't really need a black top as well. I did need another pair of closed toe shoes for when it rains, so I swapped in my black Target flats.

I've been wanting a red and white striped t-shirt for awhile now, and I tried to find one before the challenge started but couldn't.. so I just threw in my existing red and white striped tank. When I spotted the new striped tank at Forever 21 the other day for only $5.50, I knew it'd be more versatile than the existing one. Plus, I like the bolder stripes.

I had reserved my wildcard item for a mustard yellow skirt or pink skinny jeans... because I felt that I needed some colors in my bottoms. Instead, I fell in love with this little coral skirt, and it's just the perfect pop of color I need!

I'll update my 30 for 30 page with the new items. :)

  1. Oh no has it been really rainy for you?  Yeah wearing tights in June would get to me too!

I love that bright coral skirt, I think I saw you and Cee tweeting about it?

  2. Ha, ha ... I updated my 30 for 30 too, but only cause some of my items no longer fit (They totally shrunk on me!).

  3. I wish I could still wear tights in June. We had our hottest day in ten years yesterday.  It was nearing 115F. So hot.

This outfit is super cute, and I like the switches in your 30 that you made. The red striped tank is so great, I'm sure you'll find lots of ways to wear it. And the skirt is adorable.

  4. It's great to see how different theses first 30/30 looks are...though I guess it's easier at the start? I would totally wear this outfit and I like the pop of color belt. Your hair looks lovely up like that too – I am so impatiently waiting for my hair to grow (and stop falling out post partum!) which is maybe silly because I always wear it up anyway to avoid grabby baby hands.

  6. The weather has been crazy this summer! It's hotter than usual in the south and colder than usual in the north! Just crazy.

That coral skirt is going to be SO cute! Even if you have to pair it with tights, like you said, it'll be a perfect pop of color!

  7. Oh my gosh - at my conference in Kennewick last week it was in the 90s. Normally I'm not a fan of that kind of heat but every chance I got I was sneaking out and sucking it in. I like the tank top - I wonder what the odds are of my finding it at the Tacoma Forever 21.

  8. Yes! I saw it at Forever 21 and thought it looked vaguely familiar. Now that I have it, I've been seeing it on a bunch of different bloggers! :)

  9. OH NO!! that totally sucks. :( We totally shrank my son's new Thomas the Train shirt and it's hilarious because it looks like he's wearing a muscle tee. I couldn't stop laughing!

  10. 115?!! CRAZY. Is it even possible to go outside?

And I'm actually really happy with my picks now. Before, I was kind of "meh" about some of them, but now I'm actually excited to remix everything!

  11. Haha! I know. I wore my hair in a pony tail for my son's first year of life. Having it down just got in the way of everything, and oh the shedding... ugh. hated that! :( Good luck!

  12. I know. I keep complaining about how cold it is, and watch when it gets hot, I'll probably just complain about the heat. :(

  13. Haha! The other day it was sunny and I sat in my car with the windows rolled up just to savor the stuffiness. It was so warm!

I couldn't find the tank top on the website, and it was the only one that I saw in the store, so I had to buy a size up (which is fine if I"m wearing it loosely). Good luck finding it!

  17. i totally support the swapping out items - i had to do it too in my 30 in winter. I think you learn what works as you go along, so it's hard not to - you know? meanwhile, i cannot believe you are wearing tights!! you poor thing!!! I will share my sweltering humidity with you if you like!! hehe

  18. I'm thinking of making some switches too, but mostly because it's so hot and I have no use at all for the cardigans I included!

  21. I HAD to go shopping to fill it, or else that 30th item was looming over my head, FORCING me to shop. haha. My life feels more complete now that I don't need to worry about it. :D

  26. Tights in June?? Wow, I kind of envy that. But only because NYC's weather has been absolutely disgusting lately with humidity and soaring temps.

Those black flats are so cool. I love that quilted pattern! Very Chanel-esque.
