I love the look of a button down tucked into a pencil skirt paired with a pair of pretty pumps, but seeing that I work in a super casual environment where the majority of people wear jeans and sneakers, wearing such an outfit is a little too professional and fancy. I tried to tone down the fanciness by wearing a casual button-up and a studded belt. Did it work?
I bought these nude pumps back in May after seeing Jean's review of them, but this was my first time ever wearing them, and I've got to say, I'm horrible at wearing pumps. I was walking all wobbly and my feet were hurting by the mid-afternoon and I was tempted to go to my car and change into flats.. but unfortunately that would have required walking.
At 4:52 my boss needed something mailed at the post office 3 blocks away, and asked if I could run there before 5pm, and I think the mere thought of the pain showed in my eyes and he told me he could find someone else to mail it if I was busy. Crisis averted, but now my boss probably thinks I'm lazy. Especially because I happened to be browsing twitter when he approached my desk. Always the worst timing. "Busy? Riiiiiight."
For Day 1 of Kayla's 21 Day challenge, we were supposed to pick one item to remix three times over the next 3 weeks. I'm picking this grey skirt. Boring and safe choice, but hey, I'm kind of remixed out right now.

Hey I'm remixing my grey skirt too! I'm in the flickr group (emilyfaith2011). I may use some of your grey skirt fashion ideas! :)
ReplyDeleteI tried those shoes on and thought they were the devil - SO uncomfortable! You look nice, though, so that's good (I really like that belt!)! I feel like I'm generally at the same level of dressiness for work everyday, but today I've had three coworkers ask why I'm so dressed up today (I'm wearing a skirt, tank, cardigan, and pumps...soo...I don't really get it).
ReplyDeleteI adore this outfit, very professional indeed but not too uptight with the slight changes in detail.
ReplyDeleteAnd sorry to hear that the heels didn't work out for you...I almost bought them too but already have too many pairs of "nude" pumps.
niiiiiiice. i ordered two pairs of the pearce pumps- taupe and beach, the kashana lace up boots and some ultra clearance black sandals last week and they're coming in today! even though the pumps aren't comfortable... they look great!
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous! Loving your hair! This is one of my favorite looks on you!
ReplyDeleteLove the belt...I have it in the white-ish color.
ok you look super different in these photos. I dont know if it's the cute outfit..or maybe you curled your hair..or did something different with your eye makeup but i love this new look on you! super sexy mama!!! ;)
ReplyDeleteHa! I hate when the boss catches me taking a quick break, especially on days I really have been busy. Then he thinks I'm just a faker. lol
ReplyDeleteI love how you paired the grey skirt with the brown belt & nude pumps. I never think to do that!
I think this is perfect for a casual office. It makes you just dressed up enough. You look gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteDo you have a job interview today? Kidding, that's what my coworkers say to me whenever I dress up -_- I think we work in similar environments, but swap out the sneakers for flip flops.
ReplyDeleteVery professional and I ADORE these pumps on you. Perfectly matches your skintone.
I heart boring grey pencil skirts. Yours especially looks beautiful with those shoes! Yum.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet look! The neutrals all work well together!
ReplyDeleteHilarious about the heels - I used to keep a pair of slip-on sneaks under my desk for just those ocassions, but I bought them in a flaming red color as reminder to myself not to leave them on all the time! I guess a little pair of flats would've worked better!
ReplyDeleteniiice!you are also doing kayla's challenge after 30 for 30!I thought I was the only challenge-intrigued!hheheh! I love pumps but I m really bad at walking them around all day!probably just make it to the taxi and back and that's all! ;)

You look great. I think you toned it down. Not too fancy.
ReplyDeleteMethod Clothe
I wanted those heels so bad! But Target NEVER had them in my size and I finally ended up getting a pair of Steve Maddens at Last Chance.
ReplyDeleteAnd I've said it before but I'll say it again: hair jealousy. I have it.
How cute do you look! I love it, great skirt.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I don't think you can ever go wrong with a pencil skirt and a blouse, but then again, that's probably because my closet doesn't consist of much else anymore :)
ReplyDeleteLove this look, especially with the belt!
I've been looking for a perfect pair of nude pumps - yours are so cute but I can't deal with uncomfy shoes. The quest continues...
ReplyDeleteThis looks so fresh and professional! and there is no shame in kicking off the heels in search of a more comfortable afternoon, seriously. Also, I cannot believe I almost missed out on the 21 day challenge... hmm I may have to re-evaluate what I will be posting for the next little while
ReplyDeleteI think people will always construe outfits as more dressy when there's a skirt involved, but I love this! It really shows off your tiny figure well. In the house, in front of the mirror, I'm confident the heels will work. But I always regret wearing heels as soon as I step out of the house too. :/
ReplyDeleteSo simple but I love this outfit! Pretty.
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing when my feet start to hurt! After a day of walking in heels I can't help but to re-arrange my plans! "Sure we're out of toilet paper, but we can wait another day, there is no way I can walk through the grocery store in these shoes! "
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the mix of neutrals. I have always liked how nude pumps look but I just have accepted that I can't wear heels. Unless I don't have to walk and it's cold out (I have a wide toebox which swells with any bit of heat). Fortunately I always work in casual environments so heels are a rare need.
ReplyDeletei love those pearce pumps. Bought them in three colors because they were so comfy! But I also work where it tends to be too profesh to wear them. *sigh* Seattle :)

Exciting! I'll be sure to check yours out :) I'm already behind though, because I missed yesterday's pattern mixing (couldn't find anything that looked good!) but I'll be trying to keep up the rest the days! :)
ReplyDeleteReally? I thought they were super comfy until I actually walked around for half the day. I think if I wore them on a mostly-sitting day, they'd be fine :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, I hate when people ask why I'm dressed up. but then again when I see the guys dress nicer than usual I always ask. I'm such a hypocrite! :)
Thanks, Elle! I'm totally late jumping on the nude pump bandwagon, but I love how they look!
ReplyDeleteExciting! The taupe and beach look really similar in color, I have no idea what mine are. I think taupe? They aren't THAT uncomfortable. I was able to wear them for half the day without any problems (other than wobblyness), but by afternoon my feet were starting to hurt. And I have the Kashana lace ups! I'm clueless on how to style them, so you need to start posting your outfits on your blog so I can copy you. :) lol
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michelle! and yay! belt twins!! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, I don't think I've done anything special. I did get eyelash extensions last week so maybe my eye makeup looks a bit different, I didn't think it was that noticeable though. :) but thanks, Yvonne! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, if I could match my belts to my shoes I totally would, but I don't have that many belts (or shoes) so I have to make do with what I have. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL. yeah, people have stopped asking why I'm so dressed up, which is nice. I never know what to say. "uh, I just felt like dressing up?" Guys wouldn't get that.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Melissa! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks Misty! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's smart! We work in an open space so everyone can see beneath the desks. :( I think a pair of flip flops would work too. Ooh, now you've got me thinking... plus flip flops would be perfect for those mid-day pedicure breaks :) I need more of those!
ReplyDeleteREALLY?? Because my Target always has a bunch! I kept waiting for them to go on sale so I'm checking them all the time (because I bought mine at full price, almost unheard of from me) and the black and grey styles both went on clearance, but not the taupe ones. so mad.
ReplyDeleteI saw the grey and black pairs go on clearance at my stores but I really didn't need more shoes (and I wear pumps so rarely so it's not worth it).
ReplyDeleteWhen I first read your comment, I thought you meant that it was too profesh to wear the pumps. WHA??? But then I realized I misread it. hehe. :) Oh, Seattle and our casualness.
Haha, there are SO many people participating in Kayla's challenge! :) I tend to walk a lot at work so pumps are usually too much. I'm loving that chunky heels are cool again because those are so much easier on the feet :)
ReplyDeleteMe too! I'm always very impressed by girls who can wear heels everyday. I always need to let my feet recover the day after I wear heels, haha!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that work environments these days are pretty casual. Can you imagine if it were like Mad Men days? All the girls with the perfectly done up hair and makeup and pencil skirts and heels. MAN, that would be painful. and take so long to get ready in the morning!
Same here!!! If my feet hurt, I go straight home and avoid having to run any errands. And I'll pick photo locations where I can take pictures 5 feet away from my car :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, same here! I wore these shoes all around the house a few times and they felt fairly comfortable. It was after a few hours that I started to feel it and regretted my choice :(
ReplyDeleteDO IT! :) I'm so behind anyway, I have like a 2-day turnaround for outfit pictures, haha! :)
ReplyDeleteThey're not that bad! I think they just hurt because I'm not used to wearing pumps, but others have raved about how comfortable they are :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, you have MUCH more than pencil skirts and blouses. What about all those pretty dresses? :)
ReplyDeleteI alternate between "It's a nice day today!" and "Ran out of clothes, gotta do laundry" lol, even if it's sort of a lie :)
ReplyDeletesooo target shoes run big? i think i need to exchange all of them for a half size smaller :( i didnt really think about how to style the boots. i got them in the dark brown. but it can go with ruffle-y dresses or striped tunics or oversized blazers. or with shorts, green ones. i think they'll be perrrfect this fall/winter with leggings, like thick grey ones with some nice texture to them. ok now im just rambling. anyways, i wont pull them out until our "summer" is over. you know, like next week. ugh.
ReplyDeleteIt’s my first time to read like this article.hdfh
