Bridge over untroubled water

Top: NY&Co (thrifted)
Cardigan: Target
Shorts: The Limited
Boots: Target
Necklace: Target

I think I may have eaten my mouth raw from too much half-off Easter candy. I'm half way through a bag of Whopper Mini Robin Eggs (my fave!) and Sour Patch Bunnies. When I was at the grocery store, I had to limit myself to only two bags of candy, and it was a tough decision. I swear I must have spent 15 minutes standing in the Easter section debating which two to get. My life is so hard sometimes.

I straightened my hair last night before bed because I had to be at work early (well, not early in most people's standards, just early for me) for a meeting, and thought that I should just have a fuss-free hair morning. Turns out I was wrong. Straightening hair seems to take just as long as curling it, and there's less room for error or messiness. I really admire you ladies that are able to straighten your hair every morning. TAKES SO MUCH TIME.

Only an hour until the Royal Wedding. It seems so much easier to stay up late than to wake up early (3am?!!! No thanks), but I'm not crazy, so I'm going to bed. Can't wait to see all the pictures in the morning :)

Not Today

Shirt: Forever 21
Jeans: J Brand
Belt: J.Crew
Flats: Target
Necklace: Anirtak

This outfit was actually from a week or two ago, when it wasn't all cold and rainy like it was today. It was like 42 degrees when we were out earlier, and some of the higher elevation areas are getting a bit of snow. I'm almost contemplating busting out my winter jackets again. IN LATE APRIL. Not happy about that.

I was hesitant to post these pictures because I didn't like my hair that day. My bangs were overgrown and I was too lazy to curl my hair that morning. The little bit of texture I have is leftover from a digital perm I got over a year and a half ago. It's annoying because my hair isn't really wavy, and it's not really straight either. Hopefully that will be fixed this weekend when I finally have some time (and a Groupon) to get a new perm. Crossing my fingers I'll have wavy beachy hair next week instead of this half-straight-half-barely-wavy mess.

... wavy beachy hair that I'll be hiding under my giant down parka. Ugh. SPRING, Y U NO HERE YET?!

The Lid

Sweater: Target
Skirt: Thrifted F21
Boots: Frye Melissa Button
Belt: Target

Today was the wrong day to be wearing a long sleeve sweater, tights and boots, even though I swore the weather forecast this morning said rains and a high of 55. Felt kind of awkward when I passed by a girl in a tank top.

And that lens flare making my skirt all weird colored in the first picture? I tried to Photoshop it out, but was unsuccessful.. so I guess it makes it "artsy" or whatever.

I took my pictures at The Lid on Mercer Island today, and I tried to Google what these big giant things are behind me, but I truly have no idea. Any of you Seattle people know? I think it may have something to do with the fact that the freeway runs underneath the park. Air thingys? Beats me.

Did you enter my secret giveaway yet? I'm giving away an in-store American Apparel voucher, so go here to enter. Giveaway closes on Friday!

You're my sunshine after the rain

Dress worn as top: H&M
Cardigan: Target
Skirt: Old Navy
Boots: DV by Dolce Vita
Necklace: gift from Amber Lena

... you're the cure against my fear and my pain, 'cause I'm losing my mind when you're not around... It's all, it's all, it's all because of you :)

It was pouring rain during the day today, and I crossed my fingers it would clear up by the time I drove home. Thank goodness it did, because sideways rain is not fun, and taking pictures in it would be even worse.

I realize that a lot of people in Seattle don't carry umbrellas, even though it's always raining all the time. Aside from keeping you somewhat dry, I realize that umbrellas are very good tools when you see someone walking towards you that you want to avoid eye contact with. Like, today, I was crossing the street, and this crazy bum started walking towards me waving his arms and shouting incoherent things (I think he was trying to tell me I could cross the street even though the crosswalk light was red, because no cars were coming). I just tipped my umbrella down so I couldn't see him anymore, and that was that. Problem solved.

Makes me wish I could solve all my problems with an umbrella. Don't want to do dishes? Block them out with an umbrella. Don't know how to solve a problem at work? Block it out with an umbrella. Cranky baby waking me up at 3am with a bloody nose and then getting it all over me? Block it out with an umbrella (after I wash out all the blood from my clothes and hair, of course. Gross.)

Not a real post

Button-up: Target
Cardigan: Target
Jeans: J Brand
Flats: Target
Belt: Forever 21

I don't particularly like this outfit. I didn't care whether I got of picture of it or not, but the sun was out and our meeting got out early so I had some time to take a stroll around Seattle Center to get some fresh air. It was packed, but I decided to try to take some outfit pictures, and none of them turned out too well. Mixture of no tripod, meh outfit, and hair pulled back. And then my husband saw these pictures and thought I was wearing white shoes, but then realized he was just looking at the tops of my feet. Great, thanks. But... I'm going to post them anyway, because I need to put up a post, so here you go.

The true purpose of this post is to announce a secret giveaway. I wanted to do a giveaway for readers only (which is YOU if you're reading this) without doing a whole new post about it (those tend to attract those enter-giveaway-but-never-come-back people).

Remember a few weeks ago I bought a $50 American Apparel gift certificate for myself and one for a reader? Well, I went to the store TWICE and tried on everything that I wanted to try on, but didn't really love anything and didn't want to buy something just for the sake of buying something. So, I'm offering it up to one of my readers. Please note that it's an in-store certificate, so you'll need to be able to go to an American Apparel store (not outlet) between now and May 31st (when the voucher expires). It is not valid on the website.

To enter, go comment on this old post before next Friday, April 29th! :)

It's a love story, baby just say yes

Chambray shirt: Target
Jeans: J Brand Love Story in Jett
Clogs: Sam Edelman Faye
Belt: J.Crew
Vintage ivory necklace: Mom's

I tried on a pair of J Brand Love Story jeans a few weeks ago and just FELL IN LOVE with the fit and the awesome super-flared legs. Since I'm not a big fan of spending $180 on a pair of jeans (that's like my clothing budget for 3 and a half months right there!), I've been stopping by Nordstrom Rack every once in awhile to see if I can find a pair for a little cheaper. I must have been super lucky or something, because last week I found the only pair in the entire store, and it was in the clearance racks, IN MY SIZE, for only $50! If that's not a sign to buy something, then I don't know what is.

AND THEN, to add to my luck, the lovely Rose put up a blog sale last week and was selling these Sam Edelman clogs that were too big on her (but perfect for me!), so I was able to snag them for dirt cheap. They're the tallest shoes I've ever owned, and I almost rolled my ankle three times today because they're so narrow on the bottom, but I really really like them. Too bad these are the only pants long enough to wear with them (and I wouldn't mind an extra inch so they'd graze the ground), so I'm probably not going to be doing too much mixing around when it comes to these pants and shoes.

Do you like my necklace? I do. I stole it from my mom's jewelery stash a few years ago. I asked her if she wanted it back, but she said that I could just have it, so I guess it's mine now. Yep, I'm pretty lucky.

One last thing, I copied Andrea's photo location. It was kind of nice just stepping out of my car and snapping photos without having to walk a lot... which is a pretty crucial deciding factor at the end of the day when your feet are mad at you.

PS. Did you know that J.Crew does not have a space in between the J. and the Crew? I learn something new everyday.

The Shire

Top: Old Navy
Cardigan: Hand-me-down
Shorts: H&M
Boots: Steve Madden
Necklace: gift from Sydney

I'm really loving the longer daylight hours, because it means that I'm able to take my photos on the way home from work! Now that it's sunnier out, it's hard to take photos on my lunch break because of the harsh shadows as well as the tons of people taking a stroll, eating lunch outside, and enjoying the 50 degree sunshine. Plus, I'm kind of sick of the area around my work, and being able to take photos on my way home has opened up a ton of new photo locations.

I actually had another park in mind on my way home, but I didn't bother looking it up on the map to see where it was, and I drove around for 10 minutes looking for it. Turns out I took the wrong exit... but through my mistake I discovered this little place. I've taken photos at the same park a few times, but I had never seen this particular park entrance, where there's a lot less traffic and people. Perfect for setting up a tripod without being seen :)

My husband was looking over my shoulder when I was editing my pictures and noted how much the grassy hills looked like The Shire. I just need to add some little round doors and get some hairy feet, and then we can all pretend I took a trip to Middle-Earth to bring you these photos.

Indigo

Cardigan: Nordstrom Rack
Skirt: BB Dakota
Boots: Indigo by Clarks
Belt: Thrifted

In the past, this skirt was usually reserved for the winter months, when I paired it with a black or grey top. I never thought of wearing it in the warmer months because A) it's a thicker fabric, and B) it's indigo-y blue, which I usually associate with fall and winter.

Now that it's April, I feel like I SHOULD be dressing more for spring, despite the still-really-cold temperatures. Even though I'm still stuck in thick tights and boots, I thought I could at least lighten up the colors a bit, and not go with the usual dark-and-drab look. I had envisioned wearing this skirt with a lavender top, but since I don't own such a thing, magenta it was.

So, this skirt has an exposed zipper that runs along the entire back without a little hook and eye closure on top (maybe I should just put one in myself..) and my son happens to LOVE unzipping zippers right now. I was putting some dishes away and he came up behind me, reached up and unzipped my skirt, and the entire thing fell to the ground. I'm just lucky he didn't do this while we were out. You know how embarrassing that would have been? I don't even want to think about it.

J. Crewy

Shirt: J. Crew
Skirt: J. Crew
Flats: Target
Necklace: Forever 21

I met up with the lovely Rochelle from Rochelle Approved on Friday for lunch at Serious Pie (yum!) on her week-long layover trip in Washington. She and her husband are moving to Okinawa for three years, those lucky ducks. I'd be more jealous if Japan wasn't so expensive.

I felt very J. Crewy in this outfit because I wore the only two J. Crew items that I own (excluding a belt, so make it 2 out of three items I own). I mean, I do like their style (not so much the old school J. Crew with brightly colored chinos embroidered with little turtles and sailboats), but I didn't start shopping there until after I started this blog.

Good thing I have a sister who doesn't shop there as well, and she had a $100 gift card that she had hung onto for a few years. When I told her that I spied a skirt there that I liked, she generously gave me the gift card because she knew she wasn't going to be using it. Sweet! Too bad my husband was jealous that I got free money, so I agreed that I would only use half and he could have the other half. It sucks that $50 doesn't go very far at J. Crew, so I was only able to get this skirt and a belt, both on clearance, of course. Still, $50 free dollars is better than zero free dollars. :)
