Janey vs. Jillie

I was looking through my shoes the other day and realized that I did not have a single pair of brown sandals. I had a pair last summer but they were getting super old and frayed so I donated them. I have a pair of brown wedges, but I just wanted a flatter everyday pair. When Jean over at Extra Petite mentioned that Talbots was having an amazing shoe blowout, I decided to take a look.

Okay, so Talbots is one of my mom's favorite stores, and in my mind, a store full of "mom clothes," but you know what? I'm a mom of two. Maybe it's time to start dressing like one, and stop shopping at stores geared towards teenagers. At this point in my life, I really do need more quality and classic clothes instead of trendy and cheap things that only last me a season or two.

Anyway, I was browsing the Talbots website and two pairs stood out: the Janey leather ankle-wrap demi-wedge and the Jillie leather gladiator demi-wedge.

The Janey vs. the Jillie
I liked both pairs but was having a hard time deciding between the two, so I made a trip to the mall last night to try them on (the website lets you can locate items in store and put them on hold!). And because I'm indecisive, I couldn't decide between the two so I brought them home to think about.

They were originally $129 and $139 but were marked down to $25.59 and $27.59, respectively. Great prices on both, but I can only keep one pair due to my limited funds.

Both pairs are comfortable and made with real leather, but the Janey is a little more annoying to put on and take off because of the strap versus Jillie's back zipper.

Which pair do you think I should keep? Or do they both look too much like old lady shoes? HALP!

If you're looking for shoes right now, Talbots has a bunch of styles at up to 80% off. If you're able to locate them in your local store, I would suggest signing up for their free rewards card which saves you 10% off your first purchase, bringing the prices down even more :)

  1. They are totally not old lady shoes! I like the Jillie - the three straps are hot!

  2. Everytime I walk into Talbots I feel out of place because I've never seen anyone younger shopping there! But really, that shouldn't be a reason not to shop at a store... because when I'm at Hollister I feel like a grandma but yet I still shop there. So I've gotten better about it.

Of the two, I like Janey more because I'm not a fan of the t-strap personally. BUT, I do think the Janey looks similar enough to your new Sam Edelman wedges, and combine that with the annoying buckles, I vote for the Jillie for you. I feel like Jillie's brown shade will be more wearable all year round too.

  3. I would go with the Jillie because it's so annoying when shoes take five minutes to put on! The faster you can be in and out the better!
And because you asked, here's a post about my hair!

  4. Both pairs are cute, but I'm partial to the Jillie. The Janey strap looks like it might be complicated to wear with pants.

  5. I also vote for the Jillie.  I think that the T strap will give you more stability when chasing after your tots and you can't beat the price and ease of getting in and out of them.  For the record, I also associated Talbots with older ladies and then I realized that 12 years later, I am one of them! and I also have two kids...sigh.

  6. Ooo! I like the Jillie pair! The Janey's straps are a little to chunky for my taste.

  7. wow that's a nice sale when it's marked down so much! they're both nice sandals. But I think I would prefer Hillie more just for the back support?

  8. Personally, I think the Jillie is more modern than the other one, though neither of them is "mommyish". You are a stylish mom, don't go wearing no "mom jeans" or nothing ;). Good luck deciding. Those are GREAT prices, by the way!

  9. I totally feel you about Talbot's.  But, whaaaaa?  Marked down to $25??  That's INSANE.  I say Jillie all the way!  As long as it looks fine with pencil skirts and shorts and doesn't cut off your leg line.

  10. Haha! they totally ignored me when I was at Talbots, maybe because I don't look like their typical clientelle? I walked straight to the register and the lady there just looked at me and then walked off to the back room without saying anything. How rude! I had to go and find another sales associate because no one even acknowledged me.

Hmm... the brown shades are pretty similar in person, the website shows them at slightly different shades. But I agree about it looking like the Sam Edelmans, but even though these are "wedges" they're more like flats. Argh.

Most people here are suggesting I keep the Jillie, but it was the Janey that I liked initially and I think I would regret it if I returned them, despite the annoying buckle.

  11. I still think you should keep the Janey. They look more expensive and they look more comfortable. I say this because the Jillie look like a bit like cheap sandals my friend got from Target once, that fell apart really fast, and though that probably has nothing to do with this pair, I haven't, personally, liked the style since. Also, I always have trouble with the sandals that have a zipper in the back because they rub, and when it's summer, it gets too hot to wear sometimes. But I can say that about metal fastenings of any kind here.

Ultimately, I think you should go with which ever pair is more comfortable, because if you like the look of both, you'll probably wear whichever pair is more comfortable more often (as I have found looking at the several pairs I never wear, but love).

  12. i'm all about comfort so i'd go with whichever one is....comfortable :)

I should go with the shoe you love the most. Which shoes would you regret if you have to return it.

  14. Wow! Great deals on both of them! I personally would lean toward the Janey for a couple of reasons. First the strap style is a little more flattering on the leg, second it doesn't seem like it would be likely to rub or irritate the back of the ankle, and finally the style is a little more classic and so likely to last longer. However, your legs are slim enough that you would look great in either style and comfort is different for everyone. ;) So, I would say keep whichever pair is most comfy to you. ;)

  15. Great prices on both of these! I wonder if there are still any left in my size....but anyways, back to you. I'd go with the Jillie just because you said the Janey gets annoying to put on. If they're annoying now, can you imagine what you'd think later?? But wait -- make sure neither of these two cut you off at the ankles where it might make you look short, unless you're already tall, then this factor doesn't affect you. But I do like the Jillie more. It's easier to put on.

  16. Thank you for blogging about this sale! I immediately went online and saw that there are a bunch of cute shoes! I've never shopped there either! And I totally fell in love with the Janey, so I went and got myself a pair. Love your blog and your style!

  17. Yay! I really liked the Janeys, I hope you do too! Such a great price for a quality pair of sandals :)

  18. haha, I totally agree about the annoyingness of putting on shoes!

  19. Thanks, CC! Both were pretty comfy and though I liked the style of the Janey a lot, the buckle was annoying me so it's going back :)

  20. The problem was that I felt like I would regret either one! Oh well, they're only shoes. I really am spending way too much time agonizing over them!

  21. Haha, wiser words were never spoken.

  22. Thanks! I did end up picking them! :)

  23. Haha, the Jillies look like a pair of cheap sandals that I used to own, too! I felt that the buckle was too annoying on the Janey so I'm holding off for a pair of wider strapped sandals that are easy to put on and take off :)

And I totally agree about the comfort! I have some really cute shoes that are just so dang uncomfortable and I never ever want to wear them!

  24. Whew! I was hoping the great prices weren't clouding my sense of judgment towards "mom shoes" :)

  25. That's a good point. Thanks, Julie!

  26. Haha, I feel safer shopping at Talbots after their company revamp a few years ago. And if the cool bloggers like Kendi and Jean (Extra Petite) are wearing Talbots it can't be that bad, right? :)

  27. Thanks, Vivienne! and your short hair was so cute! You look great with any length hair though :)

And yes, the faster I can be in and out, the better!
