Top: The Limited
Jeans: J Brand
Shoes: Target
I was really excited about the peplum trend awhile back, and had been hunting down an affordable peplum top because anything to make my waist look smaller AND hiding the muffin top? Sounds good to me!
I found this white top at the Limited, and it was a size or two larger than what I normally wear, but it looked good enough and I brought it home with me anyway. After slimming down the sides a little, I tried it on, and... it's not that flattering. The belt just draws attention to the fact I do not have a waist. I think I might have to slim it down a little more and maybe not wear the belt with it? Or start going to the gym to try to lose some of the midsection? I guess I'll be happy as long as peplum doesn't go out of style before I have a chance to do either.

I love this look. Black and white is such a crisp palette. I think you might need to slim the sides a little more because you can see the fabric blousing (is that a word?) up above the belt. But I hope it works because it looks good across the shoulders and then it flares beautifully at the hips. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteUmm Kimmie, I would love to look half as good as you after having kids. What're you talking about, having no waist?! I think the peplum top is doing its trick, skimming your waist without poofing out too much. You only live once, so keep up the experiments!
ReplyDeleteWhat?? I think it looks fine!
ReplyDeleteThis look is so pretty and classic. I really like that top on you and think it would be even more flattering if it were just taken in a bit at the waist - it would accentuate the flare more. You look so elegant!
ReplyDeleteLove the simplicity and femininity of this look! :)

Yeah, I agree. It should only take like 5 minutes to fix but the thought of getting the sewing machine out, set up and threaded just makes me feel super lazy :) Thanks Ana!
ReplyDeleteHahah, I really do have no waist! I'm straight up rectangular, but that's okay. I just have to figure out what works with my body shape and what doesn't (ie, skinny belts do me no favors, I've found out the hard way). :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Bonnie! Yeah, I agree it could be taken in just a tad more to be more fitted. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sheila! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks Audrey :)
ReplyDeleteThe peplum is awesome on you!! You look wonderful! It looks like it'd be an easy fix to slim down the sides a little bit.. well, hopefully an easy fix... but it still looks great!
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing!
ReplyDeleteHow did you just have a baby? I think you look amazing! Seriously.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great, although it could use a bit more slimming at the sides. ;) You look pretty amazing for having had a baby not that long ago! ;) And this is a great look on you! ;)
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great and so do you! Love the crisp, classic white ;)

Beautiful look!! I adore black & white together it's always so timeless and chic! And... I think the Peplum trend will stick around for a bit, it's such a pretty silhouette. Happy weekend, lovely lady! xo V
ReplyDeleteGood for you trying out the peplum craze! Looks great on you and I though the peplum did great for your waist. I agree that setting up the sewing machine is a hassle! Good luck and hope to see it on the blog again. Maybe try with a pencil skirt?
ReplyDeleteThis peplum top is so cute! Such a classic look and I think the fit looks great :)

I think the peplum top looks flattering on you! I think it would look a little strange without the belt since the top would just go from being fitted to BAM there's a little skirt thing.
ReplyDeleteHi Kimmie, I'm a lurker, but I just wanted to say that you do not look like a mommy of two kids and I hope I look just as great as you do after having my kids!
ReplyDeleteYeah, that was my first thought to pair it with a pencil skirt, but it just looked so... stuffy? My work is super casual and laid back, I mean, everyone else wears tennis shoes and jeans. I always feel weird wearing businessy clothes, you know?
ReplyDeleteHaha, yeah, that's my thought too. But lately I've seen more and more people wear peplum tops without belts and it looks fine! I think this one is just a little too boxy without a belt, so once I slim it down a little more to be more form-fitting it might be fine :)
ReplyDeleteAw thanks, Kay! You are too nice. I wish I could take credit, but I'm sure it's mostly from genes. Thanks for coming out of lurking! :)
ReplyDeleteSUch a sophisticated outfit! love it

I actually tried on that exact top when I was at The Limited last but found that if it wasn't really tight up top, it wasn't that flattering. I'd suggest trimming it in a little and trying again.
ReplyDeleteI adore the black and white though! Tres chic!
Yea, it's weird being dressed too nicely at my work too. But who cares! Haha.
ReplyDeleteThe peplum looks fantastic on you. Your complaint is purely based on the shirt being too big for you, you tiny thing! I love this look. It makes me want to go peplum myself.
ReplyDeleteI think maybe slim it a little more? I have very little waist definition (pretty much rib cage meets muffin top) and a tummy pooch, so am a big fan of peplum looks. This will look great on you once the sides are more fitted :)
ReplyDeleteME TOO! My tummy pooch went away after my first, but now with #2, it's staying around for longer than I like. I guess that's what happens when you have more than one kid... Oh well! At least it's somewhat easy to disguise.
ReplyDeleteI slimmed down the peplum top last night and wearing it today. Fits so much better now! :)
Wonderful dress combination of black and white look always wonderful.
