Belated Halloween
On the day of Halloween, P was misbehaving and cranky ALL DAY LONG, so we felt it wasn't a good idea to take him trick-or-treating and rewarding him with candy. He only wore his costume in the morning for preschool, and later refused to put it back on in the evening after his non-nap. We ended up going to bed early and I was a little sad that the $45 I spent on the two flimsy costumes was just a big waste of money when I couldn't even get any cute pictures. I mean, dressing up kids this young is solely for photo ops, right?
Over the weekend, I decided to have them put back on their costumes just for a few photos. Yes, he was in the middle of watching TV, which explains why he was refusing to look at the camera. If I had turned it off, he'd be running all over the place, pretending he was an Angry Bird or a Kung Fu Panda. It was a choice between having blurry-kid-running-around pictures or sitting-still-but-not-looking-at-the-camera pictures. SIGH. I applaud any parents that can keep their three year olds entertained without TVs.
And yes, that's his "murse" of plastic animals that he carries EVERYWHERE. and pajama pants because weekends do not require real clothes.

They are adorable. I hate when littles ruin the cool things we have planned for them with bad behavior. :( Just part of parenting I guess. Good for you for sticking to your guns. :)
ReplyDeleteSeriously too adorable. I remember seeing your tweet on Halloween and being really bummed for you. What kids don't realize is missing halloween is as big a punishment for you as it is for them!
ReplyDeleteSorry you weren't able to get your full use out of the costumes :( But glad you didn't reward him for a bad day with candy. There's always next year to go :) he's so cute carrying that bag of toys!! And the baby is cute bc she can hardly sit up :) its these natural moments you'll treasure one day!!
ReplyDeleteAwww so cute! Glad you managed to get some pictures in the end :)
ReplyDeleteLife etc
Your children are adorable! Maybe next year your son will realize why he should be good when mama puts costumes on him. Yum, candy!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY and welcome to the 30s club! Your little ones are TOO CUTE. I love the little cheekies on your baby girl!
ReplyDeleteI do not know how parents do it without TV! There are times that I just need a break and that's when I put on Yo Gabba Gabba. I tell myself that it teaches great toddler life lessons (that sounds weird) and gives me sanity.
How adorable are these little guys! And haha, I love his "murse" for plastic animals! That's too bad that you couldn't end up trick or treating, but props to you for not rewarding a cranky day with candy - I'm sure that was tough!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I felt super bad because a few days later (when he was good again) he asked, "is it halloween now? can we go trick or treating?" and I felt SO BAD. But at the time it was the right decision.
ReplyDeleteThanks, girl! Yeah, the TV is such a life-saver for me when I need to get ready in the morning or cook dinner. We usually let him watch documentaries about animals or dinosaurs, so he plays with his animals while watching, and isn't just glued staring at the TV (like he does with cartoons). Sometimes when he's telling me about his animals he uses terms that he picked up in the documentaries ("this dinosaur has a crest on his head to make noise to scare predators!") so I know he's learning from it.... I hope!
ReplyDeleteHaha thanks Justine! Yeah, he should know better ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's okay. As long as I was able to get SOME pictures :) Plus, he's super shy around strangers so I doubt trick or treating would have gone well anyway.
ReplyDeleteI know! I was looking forward to eating his candy :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, it sucks when things don't go according to plan, but I'd rather have that than dealing with a cranky kid on a sugar high. :)
