As the temperatures drop, I've been favoring darker colors and heavier fabrics, but since I don't have enough clothes to have separate winter/summer wardrobes, I try to stretch my closet as much as I can. I wanted to find ways to incorporate my favorite warm-weather pieces into the winter months, and this blush pink skirt is no exception. I probably would have put this light-weight skirt aside on the color alone, but the fact that it was fully lined (thus being tights-friendly) made me reconsider. Paired with grey and brown, the skirt easily transitioned for a crisp fall day.
You don't know how much I hate unlined skirts with tights because no matter how many "anti-static" tricks I try, my skirts always bunch up when I walk. I've tried slips, but it's just an extra layer to worry about peeking underneath, so I went and bought a bunch of lining fabric the other day and I'm planning on adding an inner lining layer to all my favorite unlined skirts. Should be easy enough, but I haven't actually attempted it yet so we'll see how it goes.
pink and grey is one of my favorite color combos! i like wearing warm-weather pieces as much as i can, because all the bundling for winter gets so depressing!
ReplyDeleteGreat color combo Kimmie! I love your skirt with the pretty edge. :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the adding the inner lining layer in your unlined skirts! Let us know how it turns out!

Love the light airy outfit! I don't have any distinction between seasonal wardrobe either, except I don't sweaters in the spring/summer. Can't wait to hear how your "lining" projects go!
ReplyDeleteI've thought about doing the same thing, but lack the follow through. :) I don't know if I'm getting old or what but a LOT of skirts and dresses seem too see-through for me these days.
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit, Kimmie! :)
ReplyDeleteI have a bunch of full slips in different lengths. They help keep me warm and keep my skirt from riding up - hate that. I love your idea of lining your skirts - clever, very clever. :)
Happy Thanksgiving!
The way gray masculinet-ize the pink is one of my favorite color combos ever! Great job pulling off the tights and non-winter skirt look.
ReplyDeleteLove this colour combo - it's really soft (rather than being heavy) but not overly girly. This would look awesome in spring too!

Yeah, I think the only things I do box up are my sweaters for the winter, and shorts for the summer. Everything else is year-round, since I can always layer cardigans over tank tops and tights under skirts. :)
ReplyDeleteSee through? Where are you shopping?! haha :) A lot of skirts that I wore as recent as last year, I now feel that they're too short :( I must be getting old.
ReplyDeleteThat's so true. Over the summer I was just itching to start wearing layers and sweaters, and now that fall/winter is here, I'm kind of wishing the opposite. :( Especially since the cold weather is here for the next 5 months!
ReplyDeleteI have always been meaning to buy more slips (i only have black and white half slips) but it just never crosses my mind, especially when I'm strapped for $$, the last thing I want to do is spend it on boring slips. Plus, why are they so dang expensive!?
ReplyDeleteIt is crazy how expensive they can be. I usually get mine at walmart, they aren't too bad. I've seen pretty ones at the thrift store, but I haven't been able to bring myself to purchase them. While I will happily thrift clothes and shoes and accessories, underthings that have been previously worn are a no no in my book. Ick. :)
ReplyDeletesee, if it weren't for you, I wouldn't even know about tight friendly skirts. This is why I keep you around.
ReplyDeleteWell you do know a certain squirrel nest smuggler...
ReplyDeleteI hate you for that comment.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that skirt! I am having the skirt/tights fight today! Grrrr....
ReplyDeleteI LOVE pink and gray together. This is such a cute outfit lady :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely hate it when dresses/skirts gets staticy too!

I'm sure you could pull-off shorts with tights!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a cute skirt - and I'm with you on skirts with tights and layers. Static cling is the worst!
ReplyDeleteI love pink and grey together, but I don't think I would have thought to pair that cognac brown with them - I love it! It really tones down the girlishness of the pink/grey and makes it so fall-appropriate.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is so cute and very fall appropriate! I also loved your interview on Fran's blog! I often refer to your blog when I get asked about budgets. I know nothing about budgeting other than how to blow one up! :)
ReplyDeleteLastly, I didn't know you also had the Jane Stitch boots. I just got a pair at Nordstrom Rack and I really love them! Now we're twinsies. lol.
I love the scallop detail on that skirt, and I'm drooling over those boots! Seriously. Also, a couple tricks I use for static when it is driving me nuts are 1. rub a dryer sheet over the inside of your skirt and your tights, or 2. spray your tights and skirt lightly with hairspray. The first is preferable for obvious reasons, but hairspray works wonders.
ReplyDeleteYay boot twins! I got mine at Nordstrom Rack, too! I got mine about a year ago, but haven't really worn them on the blog much, mostly because I haven't been keeping up with outfit posts much. I do love them though!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for referring to my blog re: budgets :) I try to be more mindful of my spending, but, ugh it's hard. I've seen some other bloggers do shopping bans that last a whole year, or only shopping at thrift stores. I could never do that!
I tried the dryer sheet trick and it didn't work :( The hairspray one kind of scares me because I would think it would get all sticky and gross. But I'll try it out next time. Thanks, Bonnie! :)
ReplyDeleteyou are giving me total Black Swan realness right now! i was obsessed with pink and gray after the movie came out, so I just love the skirt and tights combo here!! super cute.
ReplyDeleteI really love this - I am watching a skirt in a similar hue on eBay, may have to bid now! :). Btw, thought I'd added your blog to my blogroll and hadn't...it's on there now, so I will be reading away!
ReplyDeleteOooh fun! I hope you win it! And thanks for adding me! I feel so special :)
