Winter uniform

Plaid shirt: Target
Sweater: Target
Jeans: AG
Boots: Frye Melissa Button

This outfit is a complete copy of my previously wrinkled outfit, but I switched plaid shirts, sweaters, jeans, and boots. I guess you can say that it's my winter go-to uniform. I'll try not to bore you guys with a million different variations, but it's hard when it's so cold outside and all I want to do is to wear as many layers as possible.

Although, I will have to say that wearing boots with smooth leather soles is probably not the ideal icy morning footwear. I can't count how many times I almost slipped, but by walking realllllly slowly and carefully (and probably looking ridiculous), I was able to avoid any faceplants.

I did want to buy a pair of winter boots with good traction (I own none), but I can't seem to find any that I like. I was supposed to get a pair for Christmas but I never settled on a favorite pair, so that never happened. Sorel boots are cute (and their Target knock-offs as well, but those had cheap plastic lace loops that were all broken when I tried them on in store) but I have yet to find a pair that makes me go, "I MUST HAVE THESE, RIGHT NOW." January and February is probably a good time to be buying boots when retailers are trying to clear out their winter gear, so I'm starting to get antsy because I don't want to wait too long as to have my sizes sold out. Any suggestions?

  1. Cute outfit!  I was just looking at that sweater on target.com this morning!  I like it!

  2. I'm useless when it comes to anything related to cold.  But I, too, am a huge fan of plaid, a sweater, jeans, and boots.  The soles on my boots are starting to get worn and are losing traction.  I was wondering if a cobbler could do something about that for me, but I haven't looked into it yet.

  3. Isaay always has great promos, and they have some cute sorels. I love mine - toasty, and they're not bad looking for functional boots. Btw, plaid/sweater/skinnies have been my go to uniform too!

  4. I love this outfit! So simple, yet so put together. I totally hate being cold too, layers are the perfect solution!

  5. How about Hunters or Tretorn boots? I just bought a pair of Hunters on sale and they're great for snowy Canadian days.

Cute outfit! Is that all you need for a winter's day in Seattle? It's been a very mild winter here in Toronto, Canada so far, but I still need to wear a bulky coat out ):

What you have on is pretty much my weekend "uniform" too.  I love your boots!  Have you tried looking at Piperlime?  They had a big sale going on right now and love the free shipping both ways.

  8. We must go to the same style school, because that's my uniform, too. I'm sincerely hoping boots, buttondown, sweater and skinny jeans never dies out.

Is it possible a shoe doctor could do something to add traction to the soles of your boots?

  9. I love this winter uniform! Looks warm indeed. I totally wear more if I had more than one button-down ;).

  12. I slip every time I wear my Fryes (boot twins!). However, my vanity over how killer the boots look trumps any desire or reason to remain standing upright.

  13. Hah! I know. Mine aren't TOO slippery anymore after two years of scuffing, but when it's icy, it's a completely different story.

My newer Fryes that are not so scuffed up yet, those are out to kill me, especially when I'm just casually walking in the office lobby's smooth carpet and BAM, my foot slips out under me and I pretend I am doing some funny little jig so people don't think I slipped ON NOTHING.

  14. They're TOTALLY worth it! I love mine to pieces :)

  15. HAHA. I KNOW. I only have like, three crew-neck sweaters, and a handful of button downs, because I didn't start wearing them until the last year or two (I've always hated ironing, so I refused to buy button downs), so I can't actually do *too* many variations. :)

  16. I'm sure a cobbler could add something to the soles, I've never even considered that! Thanks for the suggestion :)

And yes, I hope this never dies out either!

  17. Oooh, I'll have to check them out. I kind of avoid browsing sales because I end up wanting too many things, though I do have a bunch of Gap/ON/BR rewards that could be used on a Piperlime purchase so that's a plus. Thanks, Alice! :)

  18. Aren't Hunters just rubber though? I feel like they would still get really cold, and I wanted something with more insulation. Though it hasn't snowed at all this year (okay, one day we got some flurries but nothing stuck) so it's not that big of a deal anyway.

And just did a google on Tretorn boots, and I LIKE. I'll have to look some more, thanks for the suggestion!

I have a thick wool coat that I wear, but I took it off for photos, since it's pretty basic/boring and black never photographs well anyway :)

  19. I checked out Isaay a few weeks ago but saw that the Sorels were excluded (and Fryes too, boo) from the 40% off sale, but it looks like the new sale is only 30% off on sale items, and there weren't any sale items I wanted to buy. I'll keep looking!

  20. Yes! You should totally take them to a cobbler. I'm wearing a pair of boots right now that had the soles worn out but repaired by a cobbler. It wasn't cheap ($20 to patch and replace the soles) but it did save me a pair of boots that would have otherwise been thrown out.

  21. It's still full price on the website, but they were on clearance in store!

  22. You seriously have the best jeans - and I am big a fan of the button-down under sweater look myself!

  23. Yes I do have the Target version! I really want the cognac color or darker brown. :) And you're right.. if I just saved up the money for 5 Target pairs it'll equal one glorious pair of Fryes! haha..

  24. I have been living in button down + sweater + statement necklace combos.  It's definitely become my uniform, but it's not a bad one to have!  Pretty and functional!

  25. Really? I only have a few pairs, and the majority of them are Target, haha! But I shall say the same bout your shoes. SO JEALOUS OF YOUR SHOE COLLECTION.

    :)

  26.  I had not even bothered adding a statement necklace to the look, but now I wish I had! I will agree that the combo (button down + sweater + statement necklace) is just perfect and I will have to remember to add a necklace next time! :)
