Take One, Pass it On

Sweater: Target
Button-up: Ann Taylor Outlet
Jeans: Hudson
Boots: Target

Last time I wore my winter uniform, Sew Petite Gal commented and said that she loved wearing the sweater + button-down + statement necklace combo for the winter, and I was like, "What? Why did I never think to add a statement necklace as well?" so of course I used this opportunity to add a necklace to change things up a little. What would I do without you guys? I also decided to ditch the skinny jeans + boots combo that I wear every other day and wear my bootleg jeans that have been left unloved for a long while.

Those brown booties that you can barely see? It was my first time wearing them since buying them over A YEAR AGO and it will be the last because they were so uncomfortable that they were headed straight for the donate pile as soon as I got home.

Also, I'm participating in a fun clothing remix challenge hosted by Sarah's Real Life called "Take One, Pass It On" where on day one you wear an outfit, and the next day you pick something from the previous day's outfit to remix into a new outfit, and keep repeating it for as long or as short as you want (Sarah explains it so much better here). She started in the beginning of the month, so I'm starting kind of late and will be doing it until the end of the month, or until I run out of ideas. If you're in a clothing rut as well and want to join in late with me, it will be so much fun! Tardy for the party, of course :)

  1. Ugh, so sad when shoes are too uncomfortable to wear! If I'm being honest, I think I've forced my feet into so many uncomfortable pairs of shoes, they just willingly submit to anything I put them into and wear them through the pain, LOL. But I feel you.

I love love love bootcut jeans. I feel a little lost on how to style them (skinny jeans are just so easy!) but I'm on the lookout for the perfect pair of bootcut jeans!

  2. What a fun challenge. Looking forward to seeing your outfits!
I agree with SPG. Statement necklace adds a little umph to an outfit and I love the colors you picked to layer.
Love your bootcut jeans. I do break mine out once in a while but they are so comfy. :) xoxo, Phoebe

  9. Boooo to uncomfortable shoes! Before reading the post, I thought to myself, "THOSE BOOTS ARE ADORABLE," but after hearing they suck, I'm sad. I hate when that happens. Boots or not boots, you look amazing in those bootcut jeans!! And that color blue, as always, looks beautiful on you.

I've been toying with the Take One, Pass It On challenge!! I'm thinking about it... :)

  10. this looks so chic. Whenever I wear outfits like this I tend to look in the mirror and go "who's that adult?" haha. I love that color sweater.. so fresh! I also love the idea of that remix! Very clever. I might try that eventually. I still have to get back to my 7 items 5 outfits challenge i let everyone vote on, but never actually did. SO i guess I should do it first!

  11. Those jeans are really flattering on you Kimmie. I had on a pair of super uncomfortable heels on today and I decided to put them in the donate pile today. I feel your pain!

  12. I'm digging the necklace look on you! If you're in the market for cute necklaces, check out eBay - I've purchased many (usually less than $10 and look higher quality than F21) and only 1 or 2 have been duds.

Love the take one, pass it on idea! Will be staying tuned

  13. I've bought a couple necklaces on ebay and they seem pretty on par with Forever 21 quality but are even cheaper. They probably all come from China or wherever it is that they manufacture all the super cheap trendy jewelry anyway! There have been a few that I loved but didn't have a "buy it now" option and I kept getting outbid, so I guess I just have to be more patient! :) Do you have a favorite seller that you buy from?

  14. It's sad because i had them for a year and a half and was looking forward to FINALLY wearing them, but nope. My foot comfort is more important than looking cute :)

  15. Haha! I remember that 7 items 5 outfit challenge you were planning to do! I think I may have even voted for which dress for you to pick? I'M STILL WAITING. ;)

  16. DO IT. DO IT. DO IT. I've actually been doing it for the past few days (have 5 outfits in queue) but kind of in mish-mash order, like, having two outfits, then taking one item from each outfit and making a "connecting" outfit. It totally gave me a headache figuring out the correct order I should post them in, but I finally sorted it all out and I will start doing it for real tomorrow. I don't think I could have done it for a month straight, but for 2 weeks it's totally doable!

  17. Thanks Amber! And such a small world, I was on facebook this morning and I saw that you had commented on one of my friend's statuses (Ann's), and then finding out you went to Hazen? How have our paths not crossed until now?

  18. i hate it when you buy shoes and don't realize they're uncomfortable until the first day you wear them around! somehow they always feel fine when you're trying them on at the store. =P

    Happy Valentine's Day!

  19. I have so many pairs of bootcut jeans from 2005-2009 when designer jeans were all the rage (Seven for all Mankind, Citiziens of Humanity, Rock and Republic, True Religion) but now they just all sit in my closet unworn because I find myself reaching for my skinny jeans instead. You should try Nordstrom Rack, they always have a ton and are usually pretty reasonably priced!

  20. I hope so too! thanks for putting together the challenge. It's been fun so far :)

  21. While I love skinny jeans now, I hate putting them on and taking them off (for like, trying on clothes when shopping) so I totally love bootleg jeans for the comfort/ease of wearing factor. Though living in Seattle where half the year is rainy, bootcut jeans just get wet and muddy too much!

  22. Haha, I had a period where I wore uncomfortable shoes a lot, but now that I've reached 30 I feel like it's just not worth it anymore. I don't care if I look like an old lady, because I kind of am one now, LOL.

  23. The button-down and sweater look is something I've been gravitating toward lately as a look I'd like to do. I'm just not quite sure how to pull it off as a breastfeeding mama! My new year's resolution was to improve my wardrobe and I'm starting to find some style blogs and stumbled upon yours recently. I'll be adding it to my feed reader, thanks for sharing your tips!

  24. For me, I just pull up my sweater and then unbutton my shirt. Not very breastfeeding friendly, but not impossible either! To be honest though, almost all the outfits you see on my blog are things that I wear to work, and I change into "house clothes" as soon as I get home so I'm not actually breastfeeding in them, but I do have to pump at work, which sometimes involves undoing of belts/hiking up dresses, but never with a squirming baby.

When I'm out with the baby, I usually stick to simpler outfits with one button-up shirt (so no sweater over it) or a simple tee + cardigan that can easily be pulled up but still provide a bit of coverage.

I know how hard it is to try to stay stylish when taking care of kids, because comfort and functionality usually takes precedent over looking good, though I'm trying to get over it as well! Good luck with your new years resolution! :)

  25. Oh I know! I remember those booties being totally comfortable around the store. Or, I guess, as comfortable as walking 3 or 4 steps with a pair of shoes connected with an elastic string can be :)

  26. Thanks for the feedback. I was actually kind of excited to see that you had a baby as well!

I keep thinking I want dresses more than ever now, probably because they're so much more difficult with a baby! :-)

  27. Oh I know! I have been wanting to buy dresses more than ever right now but I have to keep reminding myself that I should wait until I'm done nursing. I do wear a few right now but I only wear them to work when I know I don't need to be feeding the baby :)

Although, there are a lot of really cute button-up dresses or dresses with wrap tops that you can easily pull down for easy access ;)
