What I wish I was buying

It's been ages since I've been on a proper vacation. Yeah, I guess we went on "vacation" to my cousin's wedding three years ago, but traveling with a two-year-old should NOT count as vacation because I find traveling with kids to be a lot of work and not at all my kind of "fun" or "relaxing." So I guess that means the last time I stayed anywhere that is not-home was before I even had kids... and P will be 5 next month, so it's been awhile.

Anyway, since we're long overdue for a tropical getaway (am I a horrible mom if I say I'd want it sans kids, because kids are stressful?), I've been planning in my head what I'd bring, and I picture florals and stripes and all the pretty things found in the Joules Vacation Shop.

Maybe we'll plan something next year, after the little one drops her afternoon nap, but for now, it's just wishful thinking. How do other families make vacationing with kids look so easy? I'll never know. But at least I know what I'd wear if I did.

Disclosure: this post is sponsored by Joules. Thanks for supporting my blog!

  2. LOVE that ombre dress. I'm going on a cruise this summer.... with my child who will be 22-months-old at the time. I'm actually dreading it because I find traveling with a toddler extremely difficult! LOL!

  3. I now really want to find a floral band to put around my current fedora. So cute!

  4. Going on vacation without your kids once in a while is a great thing, probably a necessity, for all parents! Though, I haven't done that myself. I love those yellow loafers!

  6. It is, isn't it? I have been looking for a one-piece suit that is not totally mom-ish or dowdy, and this one is totally cute!

  7. How exciting! We were supposed to take the kids on a cruise this summer but we had to scrap that plan because of my husband's work schedule, and I'm super bummed about it, because a cruise sounds like it would be easier than having flying somewhere or worrying about planning out the itinerary and worrying about naptime and stuff. Plus don't cruise ships have childcare? But yeah, doing ANYTHING with a toddler is difficult, and they're still so young that they can't really fully appreciate it just yet. Hope you have a good time though!

  8. Isn't it just the cutest? I'm sure you can use a pretty silk scarf or headwrap, or even find a piece of pretty ribbon at the craft store to match to your swimsuit! so many possibilities :)

  9. I told my husband that I want go somewhere really exotic and fancy for our 10 year wedding anniversary, like those places with the huts on the water! And right now I'd totally go on vacation with the husband and leave the kids home, but P is at the age where he wants to do everything with us (he cries when my husband and I go out with our friends and leave him at grandma's house). Like, he's fine with us going to work and stuff because he knows that we have to go, but if it's something optional or "fun" he'll want to tag along. I can't imagine telling him that mommy and daddy are going on vacation and not taking him, he would be so upset!

  13. I think it's perfectly find to want a vacation sans kids. I would love one afternoon without kids, honestly! That swim suit is gorgeous. I wish I needed a new one this year!

  14. Cute picks. I love the stripe top. Yes! You need a vacation, probably long over due for a stay-cation even! Sometimes I nanny overnight and the kids miss mommy and papa but they turn around. Have you tried letting P&L sleep over at grandmas just for fun? I remember loving to do that since it meant junk food and staying up past my bedtime. Go, go, go!

  19. Haha, I know! I love my kids to death, but sometimes I just need a break (and thankfully grandparents are close by and don't mind watching them). And I really wish I needed a new swim suit because mine are all really old (like, the most recent swim suit was bought for my honeymoon, and this year is our 7 year anniversary), but I can't justify a brand new swimsuit when there is no swimming in sight :(

  20. Yes! they sleep over at grandparents house all the time (at least once or twice a week) and they're totally fine. We just haven't gone anywhere or done anything fun because we just never get around to planning anything, and I don't want to tire out the grandparents by asking them to watch the kids for too many days in a row. I think I'll try to organize a weekend down to Portland or something soon!

  21. Yeah, I'm hoping to try to plan something this summer. Maybe just a short weekend trip, but it'll be better than nothing! :)

  22. I saw they were there! (I was totally creeping the Luckyfabb instgram hashtag and saw their cute display). Luckyfabb looked like so much fun.. actually, I'm not too interested in the panels and stuff, I just want your swag bags, lol!

  23. This is so the kind of post I should be doing since I'm not really shopping much these days. I'm allowing myself one item per month, and so far I've just bought atn $8 sweater at Value Village (albeit a super pretty one). Thanks for the idea! Love your picks!

  24. Your vacation with Henk looked so nice and relaxing! I'm so jealous :) Glad you guys had a good time! My kids are at the age where they have very strong opinions about what they want to do, and they aren't afraid to show it :(

  25. Wow! That's awesome! I totally need to take some pointers from you :)

  26. Oh. My. Gosh. The dress with the flowers on the top is SO pretty! I love how simple it is, and yet, so elegant. I can't believe it's been such a long time since you have been on vacation! I bet that if/when Kevin and I have a kid, we'll want to have a sans-kid vacation once in a while, too :)
